Re: Travelling through Virgin Islands - suggestions?

BVI finally implemented SailClear which has eliminated having to fill out their passenger manifest with 5 carbon copy pages.

Also, they appear to be out of the Immigration Form that had to be...

Re: Raymarine p70 vs p70s display

Both p70 and p70S are both ideal for sailboats. The p70 was discontinued and replaced by the p70S model in 2016. The p70S has a much clearer and brighter display than the p70.

Re: Extra Diesel(or other suggestions) for Leopard 40 (2020) to cruise.

I would first estimate the existing maximum fuel range for your boat. Then determine if that is sufficient for your cruising area and the likely distance between reliable fuel supply.

The...

I've got a FP Saba 50 (26.2' beam, 76' air draft).

I've been based in Annapolis (haul outs at Pier 7, Edgewater and Georgetown Yacht Basin, Sassafras River) and St Thomas (haul outs at Nanny Cay,...

Re: Raymarine Axiom - STF and Depth

I suggest checking the spur cable from the ITC-5 to the NMEA backbone or Raymarine display. Last spring I suddenly lost autopilot functionality as well as depth, speed and wind indications on my...

Re: Axiom won't connect to wifi

You will burn all your high speed data on your mobile hotspot trying to update the Lighthouse software. They are very large files. I would only bother updating the Axiom via WiFi if it was connected...

Re: USVI considered US for insurance?

All the policies I've had are very specific in terms of the geographic area they cover. Generally, there is a large premium to be south of ~30°N from June 1 to Nov 1. There are typically Caribbean...

Re: Bareboat sailing charter in BVI, what to do, what to skip?

The SandBox on Prickly Pear has reopened better than ever. One of my favorite anchorages and I love hanging out in the shallow water off this beach watching boats come and go into North Sound.

Re: BVI Charts?

I think Imray produces the best BVI charts. Search for Imray A231 and A232. Most of the BVI charter companies put these on their boats.

Landfall Navigation sells paper copies, but you can download...

Re: Aquila 44 coming out of charter / Any suggestions?

BoatTest has a review of the Aquilla 44 with optional 2x300hp engines. It shows a 949nm range (3.6 nmpg) with 10% reserve at 1250 rpm and 6.2 kts. You could probably boost the range by 20-30% if you...

Re: Mechanical problem with charter - how to proceed

I'm hearing the FP cats with the fixed 3-blade props have a history of losing their props (as in multiple times a year in some cases). I'm wondering if it's caused by charterers locking the prop in...

Re: Operating agreement for an LLC for Coast Guard ownership

Your LLC operating loss (reported on a K-1 that you carry to your personal income tax return and can be used to offset other taxable income) is reduced by the percentage of non-business use.
