Re: Boats with self stowing anchor rode?

I have a divided chain locker in my Fairweather 39 - one side with 240' chain & 250' ⅝" nylon brait and the other with 40' of chain & 400' of brait. Its enough stuff that much of the smallish chain...

Re: BACK SURGERY AND SAIL ??

I suffered for more than 30 years with an increasingly herniated disk compressing the sciatic nerve that occasionally made my back go out with excruciating pain debilitating me for a week or more...

Re: Precision sails

Several years ago I purchased a Precision stays'l - hank on with reef points - for my 39' cutter. Though small, this proved to be a pretty complex sail to get right and the staff at Precision spent a...

Re: Strong enough cordless drill to winch up sails

For years now I've been using a right angle drill with a winch bit to assist in raising the main on my Fairweather Mariner 39. Its only needed once the head of the sail goes past the upper spreaders...

Re: Letting teak go gray - maintenance??

I think local conditions might be more of a determining factor than is generally appreciated. So, for San Diego here is my experience accumulated over several years of taking care of my present boat...

Re: Delivery Hawaii to s California.

Hi:
I've owned a Fair Weather Mariner 39 mostly in San Diego for about 18 years and in December 2015 sailed her to Hawaii with my daughter. I intended to sail her home in fall of 2016, but my...

Re: Precision Sails: Be Careful!

When you order sails from a distant loft you are naturally expected to take the measurements yourself, which is just what I did for the staysail and it turned out fine. In the case of the mains'l, in...

Re: Precision Sails: Be Careful!

I have two Precision sails on my 39' boat - a stays'l and a main. The stays'l experience was just fine and gave me the confidence (which proved unfounded) to order a main. The mains'l purchase...

Re: Milwaukee Right Angle Drill as anchor winch?

Since the topic has come up, I've used both the 28 volt and 18 volt (super hawg) versions of the Milwaukee right angle drill, usually just to power my main halyard winch. The 28 volt version was...

Re: All About Anchors

Just an observation and a question. Majority opinion and experience expressed here favors an all chain main rode, or a mostly chain rode with a rope tail which seldom sees use. No problem with this...

Re: Binoculars - Traditional or Stabilised???

The binoculars were the Fujinon Techo-Stabl Image Stabilized 14x40 currently selling (unfortunately) at a discount on-line chandlery for $1300. Given previous posts in this thread it does occur to me...

Re: Binoculars - Traditional or Stabilised???

I have a pair of Fuji Polaris (with compass) that have been in use for about 40 years now and are still excellent. I also have a pair of Steiner Commanders that I've had for five years and they are...

Re: Image stabilized binoculars

Just thought I'd give my own experience. I have had a pair of Fuji Polaris non- stabilized binoculars for about 40 years and they are still flawless. I've also had a pair of the top end Steiner...

Re: 37' Atkins Ingrid Ketch

You have received a lot of great feedback from your inquiry, much of it contradictory, not to be surprising. Obviously, when you receive advice, someone is telling you what they would do in your...

Re: Best way to transfer fuel from Jerry Jugs to fuel tank?

I've used most of the methods described above including pouring diesel straight from a jerry jug into the fill, pouring it into a baja filter set into the fill, and siphoning it - either straight...

Similar experience with the unit on my boat. Turned out to be corrosion at a junction block. The corrosion had also worked its way up the wire some distance so that had to be replaced as well. None of...

Re: douglas fir old growth mast

I just did a quick estimate, but if you consider our actively sailed vessels only we have a total of 61 wooden spars as large or larger than yours (some of them more than a century old), most of them...

Re: Ceram-kote marine reviews.

Re: Windvane steering on a cluttered stern

Its simply a matter of sequencing. You don't need both of them there at the same time. You'll only really need the vane on long offshore passages, which is when you want the dingy on the foredeck.

Re: Dont make sailors like this now days.

Not to mention that the United States and Great Britain were not at war in 1798-1799. Most of the other statistics are equally nonsensical. Fun story though.
