I had exactly the same problem with an Arduino acting as barometer. Changing the update to 5 sec instead of 10 fixed the problem.

An update: It seems to have something to do with the pink HDT feature when running without intruments present (at home).
Clicking back to a red arrow returns the chart to normal...

Yes, I noted those few corrupted RMC messages as well as other more obvious erroneous sentences such as "<0x0F>#" on several occurancies.

Backing down to 4800 Baud, 1 Hz didn't change the picture...

This is a Win10 laptop. I have used two separate NMEA terminal programs and they both show RMC sentences (see dumps in previous posts)...

Lowering the rate to 1 Hz and setting the port to 38.4 kBaud - no difference.
OCPN still doesn't receive the RMC sentences whereas the NMEA monitor program does...

So, now I have tried unticking the cheksum.
Disappointing result though. :frown:
Some sporadic RMC sentences get through, as opposed to the stream in the NMEA monitor program where RMC sentences...

Yes, 115.20 kBaud. Set in COM port properties and both programs.
I have tried other baud rates with the same result...
It's a fast device...

I have had about the same situation as you, and wrote the following string to NMEA-converter to get a synthetic MWD-string.

SOLVED!
It was the NMEA Converter Plugin that somehow had got corrupt. I removed the old conversions and re-entered them from a backup text file from last year. And now it's ok again!

I've found one other thing to try - reduce the latency time and packet size under the advanced tab for the com port.
Hope it will work, testing on Friday....

I am a happy OpenCPN user since several years.
After last season I had to buy a new computer (hard drive crash on the old Win 10 machine), so I'm now installing OpenCPN on the new one (Win10)...
