Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
I looked at the prices for skyhook solar panel mounts but they’re too expensive. Those flow thru solar panels are also pricey. 😎 |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
My thoughts as well. It is part of the design but there is a more traditional connection which I will most likely use, with a trip-line as well. |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
I have considered setting a trip-line for my ground tackle. The Manson Supreme anchor has a slot in the shank that is supposed to facilitate recovery in a fouling situation. It allows the shackle to... |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
I am well aware of the differences between anchoring in familiar waters as opposed to the new ones I will likely encounter. Otherwise, I’d use 2 small danforths in a locker at the bow like I have... |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
Interesting take - but I would repeat the catenary is as important as the weight of the anchor alone. I reviewed the comments and note a similar pattern to the other anchor streams I have read... |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
Honestly, if you’ve been cruising for 9 years with your 80lb anchor, why do you think you would like a 120lb one better? |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
So respond to the OP and his concerns, as that is the subject of the post. |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
As many have suggested, catenary is as important, or more so, than the weight of the anchor alone. Some might even say your 120lb anchor is overdoing it. Nothing more interesting, and altogether... |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
Two 80 lb anchors and related ground tackle would hardly weigh down a 38,000 lb boat. Just sayin. Besides, gentleman do not go to weather. 😎 |

Re: Two anchors fit under the bowsprit....lets talk second anchor
I have two 80 lb Manson Supreme anchors set under my bowsprit. I like having the option of a second robust ground tackle available. Redundancy can be your friend. Why the photo appears upside... |

Re: AIS registration
Thank you for responding. This inquiry actually stayed well within the “boundaries”, so to speak. Maybe if I’d spiced it up a bit - who knows! I’d actually be flattered and surprised if someone... |

Re: AIS registration
Oh, I have plenty of things to worry about, I can assure you. Currently completing a total reconstruction of a 70 year old wooden ketch is quite a challenge - never having done this before. I have... |

Re: AIS registration
Section 5.3 “Ships dimensions” is still somewhat confusing. It calls for “overall” length but the diagram shows length on deck. As you said, the difference of 8’ in length is negligible when... |

Re: AIS registration
You are misunderstanding what I am saying. I am not worried, just curious. Whether I am anal or not, or there are agents looking for me or not - the regulation and language exists. |

Re: AIS registration
There is a qualifying regulation somewhere. I agree that the difference is minimal - I’m just looking for the actual regulation language. Bureaucracies thrive on that, don’t ya know. |

Re: AIS registration
Well, of course the length is important - if passing vessels are to make crucial decisions based on the “general size of the vessel”. And the guiding regulations should indicate that. I realize the... |

Re: AIS registration
If only we can be sure the FCC agrees with the USCG. That diagram is quite helpful, nonetheless. Thank you for commenting. When we went to document the vessel we ended up re-documenting as a... |

Re: AIS registration
Generally agree - I have gotten answers from both ends of the spectrum. The purpose of the measurement is so folks can tell how much space your boat takes up. Bowsprits are part of that. Think of a... |

AIS registration
I am about to purchase an AIS transponder. The registration form asks for the length of the vessel. My sailboat is 47’ LOD, but has a bowsprit and boomkin that results in a LOA 55’ Which... |

Bow roller fabrication - driving over chain
Greetings folks, I am fabricating bow rollers for my two 80lb Manson Supreme anchors and a windlass. I like the design but it presents some challenges with my vintage sailboat (John Alden designed... |

Re: Lightning Protection, pros and cons
And, of course, if there are any bends, curves or corners in those cables reduces their effectiveness - or do I’m told. How do you do that on a sailboat? |
