Re: Desires to crew Trans-Atlantic passage

There are other sailing organizations that keep lists of available crew to help them find captains. Try the Salty Dawg sailing association, the Ocean Cruising Club, the World Cruising Club, the Seven...

Re: Jib sheet keeps getting caught under mast mounted spinnaker pole

I had trouble with my jib sheets catching on the mast mounted winches when tacking. So, I tied two lines from my radar mount down to the deck. One line at a 45 deg angle to starboard and one to port....

Re: Feasibility of electric oven/microwave

Lots of boats are going to all electric. Check out Sailing Delvos and Gone with the Wynns on youtube. However, AGM's can't really supply that many amps so fast. You really need Lithium Ion batteries,...

Re: Gone with the Wynns' Leopard catamaran

Interesting, I see in the video that Lurker19 posted that their are in fact two hatches on the Wynn's boat, which I believe is a 2005 model. Mine is from 2007. I only have one hatch, so it seems that...

Re: Gone with the Wynns' Leopard catamaran

I also own a Leopard 43, and I am shocked that this could have happened. The bottom of the life raft locker is molded in, and it is an integral part of the hull. It does not have a hatch that can be...

Re: Software for remote anchor alarm

I have tried several anchor monitors and I like Anchor Pro the best. I use it on a Samsung Tab A. I tried less expensive tablets and found that they don't have reliable GPS chips. Mine is connected...

Re: Cheap China lifepo batteries

I bought 2 x 200 Ah LiPO4 batteries from GSL-Energy in China about a year ago. I have been very happy with them. I didn't want to pay the high price of brand name batteries or have to build my own...

Re: 400FT Chain, 50FT Water Windlass BREAKS, what now?

I have tried it two ways that I would not recommend.

It always seemed to me like a good idea to use a spare halyard and hoist it using a halyard winch. Lock the chain and lower that section on...

Re: Cruising from Spain to Turkey during this virus?!?!

In general, France does not allow navigation in their waters right now. You might be able to get away with an in-transit stop to refuel. You would probably need to go to a port of refuge (these can...

Re: Anchor for 43’ Leopard

I have a 2007 Leopard 43 and a 33 kg Rocna anchor. It has worked great. It fits nicely into the anchor well, and it does a great job of holding the boat. I have been a full time live aboard for five...

Re: Usefullness of HF-radio (short-wave radios) in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean

I have been very disappointed by SSB. I invested the time and money to become a HAM and to equip my boat with an SSB and modem. The reception is almost always poor and the time it takes to babysit it...
