Re: Irma and the local boat market

Finally had a good day of wind today, did some sailing and caught tuna. Sushi.

Had time to ponder.

Here's my official guess, I'm not a prophet - just prefer to keep myself honest:

Re: Irma and the local boat market

I get what you're getting at.

I live on the boat 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We sometimes charter. I came into this thread explaining what my boat was (a Lagoon 380) and that I would like...

Re: Irma and the local boat market

One can obtain anything one wants for whatever price they are willing to pay. I understand that as well as the next fellow.

Even with hurricane damage and a salvage title, I'd expect to pay more...

Re: Irma and the local boat market

I didn't even know $30K would get you into a boat. From what I've seen it definitely doesn't get you into anything that I consider a boat.

Re: Irma and the local boat market

This is very much what I expect to happen. Boats in good working order, well maintained, will command a premium as the inventory is dramatically reduced.

That said, I have noticed a trend - even...

Re: Irma and the local boat market

Point taken, but just because the timing offends you - doesn't mean what's being discussed isn't valid.

Nobody prayed these storms into existence for the opportunity to purchase a boat...

Re: Irma and the local boat market

Glad someone tastefully started this thread. I've been wondering myself.

My position is different than most I suspect - in that I have a liveaboard Lagoon 380 in the Caribe - San Blas, Panama...

Re: Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

So I ran out of data and then had issues with the 'good' engine. Didn't even get to sweat and bleed on the 'bad' engine yet. When it rains... I think this is on hold for about 5 days, but my plan,...

Re: Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

I know this valve and have a spare (crazy, right?). I'll pull it tomorrow (also going to pull the glow plugs in an attempt to see what's happening in the chambers.

Also have the sockets big...

Re: Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

Ok. I spent today bleeding on my engine (hose clamps).

Here's what I discovered: there IS, definitely, an issue.

Sound: Port is the engine in question, sound is a 8. Starboard is a 5. It...

Re: Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

First, a MASSIVE thank you for taking the time and energy to help out.

I didn't. I saw that in the valve cover and decided to leave it be. Taking it back apart now.

Indeed, this is...

Re: Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

Alrighty, here's the official update:

1) pulled the valve cover off, two valves (exhaust) cylinder 1 and 3 were a bit tight. Very minute. Fixed it.

2) crack injectors - several of the nuts...

Re: Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

First, big thanks for taking the time to help here.

It's a fair amount, but it's not so much that I completely freaked out.

It's evident mostly at startup, and I'm not running it that much...

Re: Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

Huge thanks here! I did know about it being a Perkins, and the price difference is most certainly important to me.

Moving on, I did one small troubleshooting test and I think it will help here....

Alrighty, first things first: thanks for the replies.

Onward.

Thermostat, just replaced it, not likely and requires a bit of work on these engines. Could be related to overheating but not...

Thumbs down Volvo Penta MD2030 White Smoke, Knocking

It pains me just writing the title. Ugh.

I have a suspicion about what the issue is, but I'm hoping for a bit of input from others. Here's what I'm dealing with:

About a year ago (2400...

Re: Connecting VHF, AIS, GPS - NMEA0183 and NMEA2000

To clarify, connect everything (sans VHF) via a single NMEA 2000 backbone.

Then splice the VHF into the backbone. There won't be connectivity issues between these systems without the converter?

Connecting VHF, AIS, GPS - NMEA0183 and NMEA2000

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Sometimes they're better off stripped and made into reefs. I've got boats like that anchored all around me.

Re: Alternator Selection for 30 HP

This is closer to what I should do, me thinks. But, a few more amps while I'm underway would be nice. Mostly because when I'm sailing, I don't get as much solar (sails shade solar) and have more...
