Re: Best wearing dock line material?

We have a significant surge through our marina in NZ that picks up our 3 ton boat and chucks it back and forth. To deal with the snatch load I have used thick stretchies to pull on the middle of long...

Re: Lombardini Diesel

Thanks, I’ve had the transmission off, I’m not a mechanic but I couldn’t see anything wrong with the spline or drive plate.
One clue is that shift in to reverse is always perfectly smooth, and in to...

Re: Lombardini Diesel

Hi Pete,
I have a 1404M so 4 cylinders, and yes it is better but not perfect. There is another new owner of same engine nearby so I hope to compare that one.
With softer mounts and higher idle rpm...

Re: Lombardini Diesel

Sorry Pete, I had forgotten your very good replies from July-August. Ignore my ramblings unless you have any more to add.
Thanks, Dave

Re: Lombardini Diesel

Pete(?),
As you are familiar with the LDW FOCS series, can you explain how many adjustments there are for the injectors? The service manual say (from memory) static advance, fuel delivery balancing...

Re: Small Busbar connections.

at local marine retailer, battery cable, e.g. 25mm is labeled 110C, but the smaller, 2,5,6 mm is not labelled for temp rating.

Re: Small Busbar connections.

Choosing wire size, based on ampacity, features in the free introductory section of Nigel Calder’s ‘Boat How To’ web site, alongside circuit length for voltage drop.
Our retailers have tech sheets...

Re: Small Busbar connections.

Thanks, great notes which I've saved. Interestingly, tinned wire from local marine supplier has no insulation temp. rating, and staff say they are 'never' asked about it, in fact some have never...

Re: Small Busbar connections.

Slightly different question.
Can I safely exceed (sum of all connections) the maximum busbar rating, if e.g. two high current connections are on the same stud?

i.e. I'm assuming here that most...

Small Busbar connections.

Some recent comments are more helpful!
The dual Busbar I have actually does have 10/32 screws, I assume finer thread helps with torque. I was considering alternator output to this bus, as am...

Re: Small Busbar connections.

Len, thanks for the marinehowto reminder, I’ve read them all but need to reread, especially with a specific question in mind. Love his articles (and have contributed $).

Not sure about the last...

Re: Small Busbar connections.

Initially I thought that sounded good and seemed right for a contact area of 30sq mm (rough guess for my lug) so current carrying capacity of something <40A seems ok.

But my 150A Busbar has a...

Re: Small Busbar connections.

Surface area sounds like the key; obvious once it’s pointed out! Surface area and crimping contact would be much better with a 5 x 5 lug than a #10 wire ring terminal, and further I could retap for...

Small Busbar connections.

Totally agree with you Len, and Raymond, so I’m using battery cable lugs. Local Blueseas dealer has a hex brand, 5mm hole, up to 10mm wire! So in my mind the limiting factor is still, what...

Re: Small Busbar connections.

Thanks for the replies….
- I use Blueseas as sold nearby, and I trust their rating over BEP
- I can go up in size, the question is just ‘how much current can I put through this screw connector. I...

Small Busbar connections.

Some Blueseas Busbars have a #10-32 screw terminal fixing.
Apart from the usual limits on maximum for the bar etc., what is a reasonable limit for this one connection. I can’t find any specs. for...

Hi,
I’ve got the same version, and have also let the subscriptions lapse.

Re: Raymarine autohelm type 1 hydraulic pump/drive repair

Now 2022, and the repaired autohelm pump still going strong! Interesting reading my own 7 year old posts. I recently saw that HyPro hydraulic pumps are available on NZ!

Re: Lombardini Diesel

I've uploaded 2 screenshots of the tables I mentioned. Somehow I decided 8 or 9 Hx was the frequency I was trying to eliminate, and you can see I've drawn a blue line down from 'load per kg' chart,...

Sorry for the delay, I am not at home. One important point, my boat has a thrust bearing and two Centaflex flexible couplings at each end of a secondary drive shaft. This means I could use softer...

Re: Lombardini Diesel

Thanks again, Pete,
That injector servicing all sounds like scary stuff. I’d be white happy to have a go but without the tools and know how it seems impossible.

Is it even necessary; if the...
