Re: US Coast Guard rebuilds its MMSI public webpages

Indeed!!

The US tried to get ITU to ease their restrictions on users resetting MMSIs, but were rebuffed. However, ITU did ease the restrictions enough to allow users to reset MMSIs "with the...

Re: US begins issuing and registering VHF handheld MMSIs

Non U.S. vessels can obtain “daughter craft” MMSIs, craft associated with a parent ship, for each of those in towed boats: 98MIDxxxx. US does not recognize daughter craft MMSIs. US vessels should...

Re: US begins issuing and registering VHF handheld MMSIs

Nope, you cannot add an 8 and drop the last digit of a ship station MMSI to get a handheld identity. Not sure why that would be much benefit, since those needing a handheld identity may not have or...

Re: US begins issuing and registering VHF handheld MMSIs

No change in the requirement. It’s the ship station MMSI (MIDxxxxxx), the type of MMSI BOAT US assigns, that is assigned to a physical vessel and prevents the radio using that identity from moving...

Re: US begins issuing and registering VHF handheld MMSIs

Yes I believe you are right. I believe you’d only get one MMSI per license, ship station or VHF handheld. I’d be interest in hearing what you find out after going through the process.

Re: US begins issuing and registering VHF handheld MMSIs

Yes, but only if the handheld is used with, kept with, and registered with a single, specific boat. FCC has given some leeway here in the past, since VHF handheld MMSIs haven’t been available until...

Re: Reset MMSI on RAY60

Agree that this is not a very customer friendly approach. We (RTCM.org) are preparing updates to the certification standard addressing these radios (IEC 62238) which, when complete, will be sent to...

Re: MMSI programing on icom radio

Can't blame the FCC on this. The restriction came from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) which is responsible for DSC standards. ITU-R M.493 has long mandated that "Once stored, it...

Re: Disputed interference between LED masthead light and VHF antenna

RTCM has a close working relationship with IEC. Once this RTCM EMC standard is completed, it will go to IEC TC80 as a new work item there. 406 MHz EPIRB standards have been handled the same way.

Re: Disputed interference between LED masthead light and VHF antenna

If you look at Annex C of EN60945 (actually IEC 60945), you see the emission limit that standard specifies for the band 156-165 MHz (24 dB µV/m at 9 kHz bandwidth, at 3m) is based upon the assumption...
