Re: Conversion ex-charter heads
Sealing the seacock? Surely not. I may have misunderstood but the disconection will only be from the head to the holding tank, non? Just to clarify I have never removed a head from an... |

Re: Conversion ex-charter heads
Right ok first the caveat: I have never removed a head from an ex-charter FP Lavezzi, Lagoon 380/410 or Leopard catamaran. But: Seriously how difficult can it be? I'm a pretty practical... |

Re: New Cruisers on the Long Island Sound
Welcome Linda and Kenny, The LIS has plenty to offer and you could gunkhole it for a lifetime. I'd definately head to Block and beyond.... |

Re: How do you do it... (no AC)
I knew a girl in St. Lucia that swore by that technique. I pretty much only wear lightwight merino wool tee's also. They wick the sweat over the entire surface of the garment thus making heat... |

Re: How do you do it... (no AC)
Don't move ever. Stay as still as possible and the heat will be bearable. And most certainly don't have a heat generating laptop on your lap typing a message on a sailing forum........that would... |

Re: Any 30 something folks out on the East Coast?
Money. If money was no object then they'd be a lot more 30 somethings out there I'm sure. Cruising on a budget still requires a significant budget. |

Re: How much Heel?
I'd always assumed that the efficiency of forward motion was related to LWL? A healing boat will "generally" have a longer LWL and therefore will drive forward - well to weather at least. For me... |

Re: Challenging ASA Standards
Yeah I get that. But to get more time on a boat it helps to be better "qualified" then the next guy, well at least that's my logic for doing the ASA 108. If someone is looking for offshore/delivery... |

Re: Challenging ASA Standards
The only certification I want is ASA 108 - Offshore Passage Making. But I can't do that without all of the previous keelboat standards being acheived/signed off. I've never been that bothered... |

Challenging ASA Standards
Right, I need and ASA instructor in or around NYC - any recommendations? I want to challenge ASA 104 (Bareboat) and ASA 106 (Advance Costal) so I can get on to a course that I will actually lean... |

Re: Why do i have a mizzen?
I like yawls/ketches. For me the main benefit is being able to balance the boat in diffiuclt conditions. There is no speed benefit on any point of sail as far as I know. A single mast has... |

Re: RYA or ASA ?
Difficult choice. But I agree that RYA is for professional sailers and ASA for recreational. If I were to do it all again I'd probably go RYA - the courses are pretty comprehensive even at a... |

Re: Freaking Radar!
This might be a bit of a low tech solution but have you considered taking another person with you? Four hour watches = four hours sleep (you can double that if you take two crew) And there is... |

Re: Introductions
Nothing that would warrant a letter to a gentlemans magazine. They were a lightweight crew and I'm not lightweight. I'd never sailed with an exclusively female crew before and it was not all... |

Re: toilet paper - poll
Bagging is the way, nothing worse that have to clear those pipes. Conachair makes a good point regarding the shower, I'd never thought of that. |

Re: Introductions
Right, I can't add a profile picture. Anyway know why that might be? It's less that 400 x 400 pixels but more than 25kb. But that's not an issue apprently. What could be the problem? |

Thanks! Boatman61 - the skipper and crew didn't quite look like that, they were...hmmm...how do I put this delicately, well let us just leave is as they were an experianced crew. |
