Re: Johns Pass-St. Petersburg, Fl

Pass was dredged a couple years ago. This was after a couple of high profile grounding. Come in during the day as the markers move or confusing at night without local knowledge. There are large...

Re: Moving to Tampa

Update 4/2019

We live in the area on a canal and thought of moving to a larger boat and aboard, but have had a heck of a time finding a decent marina without a crazy drive - looking for over a...

Re: Repairing teak & holly cabin sole

If only the Holy is bad, which usually happens well before the teak, there are some methods. Very small areas, use the Holy wood filler. After a few coats of varnish, you would never know it is...

Re: Possible fraud; how to proceed

There are so many scams going it is hard to keep track. There is usually something wrong when you find anything being sold for less than market for the condition for other "like" boats in the...

Re: Are you responsible for removing your boat from land from a hurricane?

I do not believe this is the case with a documented vessel. Different animal completely.

Re: Are you responsible for removing your boat from land from a hurricane?

From an acquaintance who went through this as the property owner in the State of Florida in a home down the street by the Gulf Shores Anchorage. The owner had the right to remove the boat or any...

Re: Laura Dekker's Guppy destroyed on reef

Does not seem to hold true. From Robin Lee Graham's Dove I and II, They had to sell the cars to pay the bills at the end. Tana Aebi's Varunna, even Don McIntyre's Buttercup - which was one cool...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

The Pinellas Sheriff frowns on the idea of anyone going out there trying to mark the wreck.

Nikki and Tanner are trying to do the right thing at this point and the Sheriff's Dept is staying on...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

Maritime liens are very different animals depending on whether the boat is documented or not.

For good information and a pretty decent guy for an attorney, see:

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

NO. CG has nothing to do with it. They will save you, and they will maintain aids to navigation. They don't recover vessels or even tow unless it is to save the vessel from peril, but they are...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

OK. First article states they got a quote at a cost of $6700 to remove the boat. AND that was the first order of business. Second they started a go fund me site to raise the money JUST TO...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

I have doubt that Go Fund Me cares. They are leaving the money in there to extend it as long as possible as donations continue to come in. All they have to do is press a button and all of that...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

I think the odds have gone from 50-1 to 100-1. Someone posted this and tells a story of a person who may have no issues walking away from a debt. The IRS and Sallie Mae will eventually get their...

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

It is not easy to clean up a mess left by someone else unless there is a declaration of disaster - clean up after a hurricane.
