Question How to fly my Spinnaker without a pole... or should I?

I have a heavy displacement boat, i.e. Max hull speed.
I have a beautiful symmetric kite, but no pole.
I'm racing.

Using a device such as the ATN tacker or Parrel Beads, wouldn't I actually...

Re: The LARGEST towable boat... weight not an issue... ?

Having an oversized permit is not a problem at all, as long as chase cars are not involved now that would be a bit much lol.

Question Raymarine Autopilot... Wireless Remote?

I have a problem... My current autopilot control unit (ST6002) is mounted inside my dodger, which is really far and hard to reach when sailing at the wheel.

Can I install a SECOND control unit...

Question The LARGEST towable boat... weight not an issue... ?

.

If the boat weighed, lets say, 1lb, what is the largest boat you would comfortably tow? 40' long? 12' wide?

I am looking to build a lightweight racing folding multihull, probably only...

Re: When to consider displacement hull over planning hull?

So would this boat of yours beat you to death when "semi-planning" on rough water? How much did this boat weight?

Question When to consider displacement hull over planning hull?

Lets say you have a really skinny 6:1 B/L 3 ton powerboat.

Obviously it would easily surpass its hull speed.

Would it be more efficient to have a displacement hull or a planning hull for such a...

Re: Beam vs Keel Depth - Which is more Efficient?

I first posted this in the multihull thread but it got moved, so I suppose I meant this in the context of beam width of a multihull of some sort...

Beam vs Keel Depth - Which is more Efficient?

Can you fully replace a keel with a beamier design (or vice versa), or is there always a balance to be struck between beam and keel depth?

Re: Convert 110v refrigerator to 12v?

Yup I do see that!

I just always thought that it was more efficient to keep the condenser coils in a separate location since their whole purpose is to get heat AWAY from the fridge.

Re: Convert 110v refrigerator to 12v?

There IS one tiny tiny problem with the mini fridge that I currently have...

The condenser coils seems to be somewhere inside the walls of the mini fridge. My only option would be to take it apart...

Re: Are my batteries being used while on shore power?

Its a black Xantrex inverter, 1500w I think.

It must be a pretty basic one (a "modified sine wave"), since it doesn't run my induction stovetop (which are known to require pure sine wave...

Re: Convert 110v refrigerator to 12v?

I do have another problem, and that is that I have to remove and relocate the dorm-room fridge's compressor ANYWAY since it gets in the way of the hull.

If I am doing this already, I figure why...

Re: Are my batteries being used while on shore power?

Gooooot it! That's basically what I was wanting to figure out :)

I just see my battery monitor not going to 100% anymore every time I go out sailing and disconnect from shore and was wondering if...

Convert 110v refrigerator to 12v?

I currently have a 12v chest fridge (one of those cold plate retrofitted ones), but I need a stand up refrigerator.

I'm not going to buy a $1,000+ "marine" 12v refrigerator... too much!

Can I...

Re: Are my batteries being used while on shore power?

Exactly. So my batteries ARE still being used, if only for a little bit?

I'm wanting to replace my 12v fridge with a 110v if only because I am not looking to spend over $1,000 to get a "marine"...

Post Velcro vs Double Sided Tape - How do you mount things?

We all know all boats rock and roll... I mean sway and surge.

So, how do YOU fasten down lamps, put up portraits, etc... Velcro or Double Sided tape?

I'll start us off - Velcro is nice because...

Re: Are my batteries being used while on shore power?

Got it. So I do have an inverter. But what you are saying is that it's probably automatically switching so it doesn't pull from the batteries when connected to A/C?

Which leads me to the question...

Re: "Eutectic" A/C - eg. Frozen Water - possible?

Huh I never thought about that. I suppose I could put cold packs inside anyways if I needed extra cold.

Would a swamp cooler work running directly from the sea water? Our waters are around 55...
