Re: Waterline Brush

Like you, I have seen some home concoctions.
As far as I know, none of these worked very well, as one cannot apply pressure to the brush head, I would think.
And.... that is another piece of...

Re: Measuring rig tension

No, I do not know a non-professional alternative to Loos.
Yes, they are expensive to buy, around $300 in Oz. But then again, in the bigger scheme of things, it is not that much. I got 2 sizes and...

Re: Start battery with Lithium house bank, what are we seeing?

As you are as visual person, here is a pic of my new start battery, being hoisted aboard. In the back of the pic my old now discarded blue top start battery.

Re: Hylas 46 polars

I don't think you have to worry about performance. I you really are, consider a TP52.
I don't have a Hylas, but noticed on predict-wind some polars, Hylas 44 and 54. Here is a copy of the 44.
But...

Re: Docking long keel/heavy displacement yachts.

Hi Coopec, yes practicing is important. Use a anchored buoy, fender or even a milk bottle with a weight. Practice how long it takes to stop you boat at different speeds.
Practising in the empty...

Re: Docking long keel/heavy displacement yachts.

Generally is it much, much easier to dock bow in first. I do not know why others in your marina go stern first, but that might be for easy of access once the boat has docked.

Like Benz said, use...

Re: How to crank/operate starter motor, Perkins 4.236

I have that engine in my boat. I have got 2 locations for fuel filters, the first filter is a set of two, and on the engine have another one. All filters are vertical, with the lids on top, so I can...

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

My weigh-in in this discussing is quite light weight as I just started the LFP conversion on my boat and running LFP in a small campervan for over a year.

I am a little surprised with several...

Re: Yacht Rock - Is this a real Genre?

The words "yacht" and "rock" should never be used in the same sentence.
They are or they should be mutually exclusive and never come close together.
All my boating life I have trying to avoid the...

Re: Sailing east to west across southern Australia

My comment in post #7 in regards to size of weather windows...... has been disproven ... twice over the last week.
Two boats (both largish cats) came across in very favourable easterly winds, one...

Hehehe, funny you mentioned Refuge Cove, see my post #7 up-thread.

Apart form Panope, still no direct comparisons between Mantus and Sarca Excel.
Maybe it is just a case of buying one of these...

Re: Sailing east to west across southern Australia

Post #4 by fxykty is spot on.
Not many places to anchor between Ceduna and Esperance, and I must say, never been in Ceduna.
Most people sail directly from Eastern Victoria or Port Lincoln to...

Re: Mantas M1 or Sarca Excel

Don't know anything about Mantus.
My boat came with a rusty Delta and a Rocna. This Rocna has been used by previous owner halfway round the world.
I replaced the Delta with a Sarca Excel. After I...

Re: Polyester Flowcoat Question

flowcoat is like general resin with wax added
you can add wax to a general resin to make it a flowcoat.

Yes, you can add to any resin,...

Re: Can I get some opinions? Ketch - Australia

from above links:
- the vanderstad looks a "Seal" design
- if you look at the Duncanson at Mindaries, then also look at a ketch there called "Helen", she might come up for sale.

Re: Running your engine off a converter - anyone out there?

The best system .... in my opinion..... is something like the original post suggested.
I had that in my off-road RV for the last 12 years:
- starter battery is only used to operate starter
- all...

Re: Can I get some opinions? Ketch - Australia

Hi Franco. I would do as you plan to do: go and see the other boat. Although, all that travel, and later bringing a boat home, add considerably to the cost (as Jim said above). Even if the boats are...

Re: The cost of moorings

Hi Harro
I feel your pain. If the mooring guys are from Perth, that is 2600 km, lots of fuel to drag a boat and gear up there, lots of travel time for crew, plus accommodation/meals for at least 6...

Re: Largest boat couple can handle

Just in keeping with this thread, this Sampson boat is not suitable to be sailed by a couple, not for $250k , not for $25k.

Re: Largest boat couple can handle

To some degree it is not the physcial size of the boat that limits to be be sailed two-up. It is more about the skills and agility of the crew (couple) and how the boat is setup.

I make 4...
