Re: ELCI / Isolation Transformer.

Just curious. You are using 230/240 in and 110/120 out?

Re: Surveyor/boat repair in maine

In my experience in NE Florida yards tend to be more task oriented when doing inspections. That is fine as long as you have a fairly modern production boat with the usual equipment inventory. Just...

Re: New Victron Multiplus install with Li Batteries

I know I am quoting myself. I have attached a pdf from Victron Energy that shows using buss bars. I would use this type of install. You could install terminal fuses on each battery, easily separate a...

Re: New Victron Multiplus install with Li Batteries

I think the buss bar connection plan makes more sense. Very easy to isolate a problem battery or add more capacity. If the buss bars have a few more connection points also gives somewhere to add...

Re: Galvanic corrosion on saildrive

A definitive check to see if a VP saildrive is isolated requires the boat to be out of the water. 0 ohms connection to electrical system. In-water will require a silver/silver chloride half cell. The...

Re: Brainstorming about adding a 48V house bank

Re: Help needed interpreting a wiring diagram.

Here is a swag using your pole numbers referencing your original drawing:

one=A1
two=(+)
three=F2
four=F1
(-)=A2

Re: New Victron Multiplus install with Li Batteries

If the only house batteries have accepted all the charge they can take the alternator might take a beating if there is no where for its output to go.

Might last reading of the BB batteries...

Re: Steering wheel slack

If this "slack" is at slow speeds do not be disappointed if you change parts and still have it. Trying to pilot a stern-drive boat at low speed is like herding cats. In my experience for whatever...

Re: Yanmar SB12 won't fire - injectors work?

Not sure if it has anything to do with the current issue but is there not a vented loop on the engine raw-water system? Most sailboat engines are near enough or below the waterline to need one (see...

Re: Rigging look okay ?

I am not expert on rigging that age and not a rigger by trade, but look at rigging pretty regularly. It is not common these days to have ring terminals on the bottoms of the wire or full toggles top...

Re: Surveyor recommendations Fort Lauderdale

There are surveyors who go up the mast, check hull, equipment, current leakage and much more. In my case, they like to work for buyers who discuss the survey ahead of time, lay out a game plan, then...

Re: Difference between 'standard' 230v AC and 2x 115v AC legs?

I do not think you needed to break the grounds (none current carrying conductors) through your transfer switch. You might try putting your transfer switch in the off position and checking continuity...

Re: Difference between 'standard' 230v AC and 2x 115v AC legs?

What type of switch is used between the AC generator and 230-volt shore power system? Are inverter(s) still used for the 120-volt loads?

Standard 60Hz panel loads would be balanced sharing a...

Re: Common ground, zinc vs sintered bronze plate?

A sintered bronze plate (e.g. "Dynaplate") should not need changing. It may be necessary if you have a single side band. Protective anodes (zinc, aluminum, magnesium) are for fending off galvanic...

Re: Prop vibration that goes away on its own...

If it goes away as you gain speed then it could just be extra load on the propeller from a standing start. As hull speed catches up the propeller would be running more freely and likely more...

Re: Lightning Protection, pros and cons

Re: Beta 14 eating anodes at a blistering rate

I am not a fan of using engine blocks as buss bars. You might study where your alternator, starter and other equipment are grounded. If they are attached at different spots on the engine block you...

Re: stripped thread on prop shaft

Chase the threads then have another look at it. I think when you clean it up it will look much better. The scale on the parts where the nut was not riding makes the wastage look worse than it is.

Re: Depreciation Curve on Production Boats?

I study this repeatedly in the course of my work. Assuming a vessel is still desirable, a reasonable current replacement cost can be found (minus the bling), normal maintenance and wear and tear...
