Re: I'm rejected. NEED Insurance

I haven't seen anyone mention Amica Insurance of Lincoln, RI. Insured my '79 O'Day. As a Rhode Island company they are very atuned to boaters.

Re: Where to anchor for an extended period of time around Woods Hole

I don't know how to solve the where to anchor problem if you really need to live on board and commute to work in Woods Hole. However, a reasonable marina that could well have space "in the area" and...

Re: What do you know of Nauteak Marine in Australia?

I appreciate the information each member has posted especially "More" who went over to take a look at the place. I ordered my table at the time when the supply chain was a mess. I talked with them...

Re: moving the boom bale

I'm a lot smaller boat, 28', but the situation is exactly what you are questioning. At least 15 years ago, a prior owner moved the boom bale back a good foot from its original position to the very...

Re: IPadPro instead of laptop

I understand people often cobble together computer software to use for navigation. My opinion is to do yourself a favor and simply buy a good chartplotter which you can then mount at the helm. It's...

Re: Raising, lowering, reefing from the cockpit.

So I understand the OP concerns. I'm 74 and want the option of the safest way to handle my sails. I have brought all lines back to the cockpit: main halyard, luff and leach reefing lines, outhaul,...

Re: aspiring sailor with queasy spouse - doable?

Yes, this is doable. I haven't read all the replies but I shared your situation, just no little kids. So first I live in Boston, West Roxbury to be exact. The best resource you have is Community...

Re: Ideal method to store batteries

+1 Have the same Lifeline AGM's for 7 years. Fully charge at haul out, recharge in Spring. I'm on Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts. Winter is plenty cold. Not a problem.

Re: Rigging Single Line Reefing

A gromet is probably the best. I have a slot built into the cradle/bag. It's separate from the sail not like a Doyle stackpack.

Re: Rigging Single Line Reefing

+1 That's what I have on my boom. Pad eye to cringle down to sheave. Put it back far enough to create an aft pull on the sail.

Re: Overwhelmed by antifouling choices

9 years ago my '79 O'Day, new to me, needed the bottom done. Very thick layers of bottom paint were flaking off because of the build-up. Paint may flak off because of adhesion but on an old boat it's...

Jabsco manual toilet malfunction

Essentially the hand pump isn't bringing in water. So I replaced the head gasket as recommended. When the bowl is empty, no suction. If I prime it with a bowl of water and start pumping the water out...

Re: Lewmar EVO winch studs

the info. was literally on the inside of the box the winch was in. A diagram of the winch with little labels. No separate paperwork.

Re: Lewmar EVO winch studs

I bought two #15 winches. So I assume bigger winches may utilize larger studs but the size needed was on the installation instructions on the graphic that was part of the packaging. No other written...

Re: Lewmar EVO winch studs

Can't post a picture since they're on the boat. You'll find images of various studs at the belmetric website.

Re: Lewmar EVO winch studs

Yes, Lewmar responded saying they don't include studs for the same reason they don't include bolts ... they don't know how thick any given deck is going to be.
However, the core of my problem was...

Re: Best Lazy Jack System for 30' Pearson, single-hand?

I had the same concern, not wanting to be out on deck any more than absolutely necessary. The system I've put it means I never have to go on deck to raise or lower or tie down the main.
I am a...

Re: Insurance for an older boat (1969 Bristol with outboard)

+1
I use Amica as well, it's a Rhode Island based company. My boat is a 1979. No problem. I started by going to my Home and Auto insurer, they wouldn't touch a boat that old either. So some of...

Re: Halyards, pulley blocks, deck organisers etc.

I'm not entirely sure where you intend to use the tubes to redirect your halyards. But I wouldn't use the rings you show either. For lines that have to lift or experience loads I use blocks to keep...

Lewmar EVO winch studs

So I've upgraded my cockpit winches from #7's to Lewmar's new EVO #15 winches. One of the appealing features was the stated ability to install them single handed because of the studs (bolts with...

Have a look at https://www.garhauermarine.com/.

If your not into ultimate performance and weight savings they produce well made reasonably priced gear (compared to Harken)

Re: Worth moving halyards? Or just keep them at the mast base?

Marathon,
I added a reefing block to my luff reef point, so you are ahead of the game. Keep them, start the line from some point below where the reef will end up. In my case, I put a pad eye on the...
