Re: Delmarva peninsula circumnavigation

I would sail south down the Bay, even on a north eastern wind, and then wait in Cape Charles until I had a southern wind to go off shore sailing north along the coast, with the wind from the south...

Re: Thinking about buying a Shannon 43 Fixer Upper

The Shannon 43 is a great boat. You can get a wealth of knowledge from Bill at the Shannon boat builders located in Bristol. He has a really nice 43 cutter about 15 years old for sale now and...

I don't like seafood one finds in mass retailers either, but I love most seafood I catch myself. It is like picking a fresh tomato out of the backyard garden or buying a tomato from the store in...

From the description of your location, it sounds like a proper anchor for you is going to be so buried by spring you will need a tug boat to retrieve it. Nothing makes the nerves go crazy like a week...

Re: Marina on east coast

Deltaville, VA might fit your needs. There is a West Marine store there, several boat yards and several yachty marinas too. Sailmaker and canvas shop there also.

Re: You'll Think I'm Crazy

Sounds like you need to go sailing now, living on a boat shouldn't be all about working on her. Go sail to new anchorages and then do some more work. Don't worry about what you don't know, the boat...

Re: Help Buying a 34'-35' sailboat to live in longterm

Not many 34' boats have 6'4" headroom. I once bought a Morgan 34 because it was the smallest boat I could find which had 6'4" headroom. They stopped making them in 1969 I think. The 1970 35' Morgan...

Re: Hitchhiking The Oceans From Asia To Europe

When you finish your cruising, come to eastern US and take over my homestead farm while I go cruising.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

William,

There is an old joke in the sailing community. "There are two kinds of sailors, those who have run aground and lairs."

Sounds like your skill set is pretty extensive, you just have not realized it yet. I would suggest you take a look at changing your occupation to one which is much more cruising friendly. At the...

Re: Propane Outboards

From all I have seen and read, it seems like a propane powered outboard is a great idea inside the US. Outside the US, there seems to be some serious problems with obtaining fuel, so maybe it might...

Re: Advice

The best way to learn to sail is to learn to sail a small boat, like 15ft. If you can sail a 15ft sloop in any weather, then you can learn to sail a 45ft boat very quickly.

Re: Advice

You have a wonderful dream. I say go for it now. Find a boat and move aboard. You could do that in a local lake in your area or you could move to the coast and do it. The Chesapeake Bay has lots of...

Re: Buying a boat in Cuba

If you want me opinion, I would take the money you are planning to spend to travel to Florida and stay there looking at boats, and take that money, spend it on a boat close to home, and learn to sail...

Re: I've had enough!

I would go with the ketch. Wind is free and not taxed. A trawler would consume a lot of fuel and that fuel is heavily taxed.

Re: New to Live aboard life. Looking into it.

Matt,

My advice is to not go into debt, buy a boat for cash, even if you only have $2500. You can live aboard many 22ft pocket cruisers. Bank all the money you can each payday, and enjoy each day...

Re: Following Seas Dangers?

I enjoy a relaxed helm. If the helm is not relaxed, then I reef. I would rather go two knots less than haul speed with sails reefed than two knots over haul speed and no reef. It is like driving 60...
