Re: Boat naming ideas
Many have mentioned this. Don't make the name too complicated. Going thru the many drawbridges on the ICW in S Florida we were listening to a boat on the radio as it requested a raise. The name was... |

Re: Daysailing in the ICW near Fort Pierce
why swim in, the draft you have takes you to shore? Nice daysail to Jensen bch for great schnitzel at The Hoffman. It's right on the water N. of causeway on mainland side. |

Re: Down to 4 Boats...Please Help Me Decide...
OK I'll concede you that, maybe it's not alot of extra weight for a boat like this. It sure adds unnecessary expense tho, kind of like putting super-premium gas in a Prius. |

Re: Down to 4 Boats...Please Help Me Decide...
beefier standing rigging is not the best idea ... makes the boat a little more top heavy. Whatever size you have now is the proper size engineered for the boat. |

Re: Protecting lithium batteries from high voltage
So I spent the day disconnecting/isolating the outboards from the house bank. Everything works as it should including the tachs and fuel gauge. Now there are two battery systems, the solar charged... |

Re: Gemini 3400 sailing characteristics
Had a 3000 and loved it. With shallow draft you can go places canoes fear to tread. Once at Elliot and Sand key (FL) there was a high 65MPH west wind alert for that night. We pulled the rudders and... |

Re: Protecting lithium batteries from high voltage
Not worried about starting an OB tho the battery manufacturer stresses they are the house bank and made different, not for starting. BTW, there is a Lithium starter battery in my high compression... |

Protecting lithium batteries from high voltage
This new to me sailboat has double 9.9 Yamahas as propulsion. Batteries consist of 3 flooded batteries as house bank and no starter battery. The house starts the 9.9's and of course are charging the... |

Re: Where to get missing compass parts?
The Ritchie has two independent rods about the size of a pencil that cross. Thanks Rocket for your trouble but this isn't it. |

Where to get missing compass parts?
It's a Ritchie Helmsman HV-76 circa 1999-2000. Took apart because the accuracy is horrific and what do I find? No compensator rods. Have been to the Ritchie Navigation site where there does not... |

Re: Fitting New Plexiglas Portlights...
Yes you need a gap, there are heating/cooling cycles that must be accommodated. It's a mistake to apply a thick bed of your "favorite sealer" only to squeeze much of it out when putting in a window.... |

Re: Harken 56-2 Electric stopped working

Re: Harken 56-2 Electric stopped working
Ah, the old whack it with a hammer trick. Forget the test now. Brushes (probably) or bearings (less so) are on the way out. Can these be rebuilt, probably worth a search, betting they are pricey? |

Re: Harken 56-2 Electric stopped working
OK so knowing this we have power at motor and then of course to both sides of relay. The switches then are your lead to ground. Get to the switches and put a test light on them as you press each... |

Re: Harken 56-2 Electric stopped working
Good of you to include schematic. Are you saying that this winch is powered in both directions or has two powered speeds in one direction cuz I don't see the wiring for a reverse? Looking at... |

Re: Harken 56-2 Electric stopped working
Find that relay that clicks and see if there is power there? If no power at both posts while it clicks, then you need a relay. Check fuse for continuity, probably not the problem since that relay... |

Re: Connecting load to charge controller or battery?
If you do not have a buss now then it's pointless to go to the trouble of getting one and then connecting a neg wire to it and then another neg to your controller. Not needed so just run a wire MPPT... |

Re: Connecting load to charge controller or battery?
If you have or can find a grounding buss then do so. A G.B. would have wires to chainplates, other electronics and zinc plates. If not then connect a second grounding wire to the (-) neg on the... |

Re: Connecting load to charge controller or battery?
The new battery is not connected to the (I assume) the other battery? In this case do what you are doing and direct the MPPT to the new battery, your speakers are good connected to this battery. ... |
