Muffler questions
My venerable Hydro Hush has sprung a leak. It is only a fast drip at present, certainly nothing the bilge pump can’t cope with every half-hour or so when motoring. However, It certainly isn’t going... |

Low output stove burner
We have an ancient Shipmate 3 burner stove. It works pretty well for the most part, but one burner is decidedly anemic. I opened up the shutter valve ( flue?) all the way, and it improved a little.... |

Re: Why coolant overflow tank no work?
As is so often the case the simplest solution worked: the cap wasn’t holding pressure. |

Re: Rebuilding older Yanmar?
There are a few diagnostics you can perform on any engine. Get an oil test kit, most auto parts stores have them. It will analyze oil in the crankcase and , among other things tell you how much... |

Why coolant overflow tank no work?
I have a coolant mystery. Last fall, my Westerbeke 55B engine started overheating. The coolant overflow tank was dry, I added coolant , and thought the problem solved. A week or so later same thing... |

Re: Damaged anchor?
The old Danforth anchors were originally marketed as “ stockless” anchors. Since, in rough appearance and profile at least, the Fortress and their kind resemble a Danforth, I am using Danforth’s... |

Re: Damaged anchor?
We have used a Fortress Fx-23 on our 20,000 lb ( design weight) boat, and I have been very pleased with the 24 years it’s held us to the bottom. Overtime, the crown has become bent. At first, I... |

Re: 9 blade impeller versus 12 blade impeller
Not only that, but Johnston parts are widely available and much cheaper. Complete rebuild kits are available for Johnstone pumps, include shaft, seals, bearings, gaskets, plate, screws- everything... |

Re: Very slow acceleration on new 2ym15 yanmar
Have you checked fuel pump and flow to injectors? If your problem occurs in neutral, it will boil down to fuel starvation, constricted air, or overloaded accessories (alternator, raw water pump,... |

Re: Caprail options
I haven’t noticed anything in this thread about Starboard. It’s not to my taste, but I can appreciate why many ex-varnishers have adopted it, though I don’t know about its availability south of the... |

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?
It may be worth the minimal effort required to equalize the batteries. If they haven’t been thru too many charge-discharge cycles the plates may not be too badly sulfated. You could be surprised. |

Re: Yacht Burned to Water Line in Marina
A sad situation indeed. Non-enforcement of liability insurance means the marina is assuming the themselves for the uninsured's. Which, usually, really translates to no coverage for anybody in the... |

Re: Evict Partner from Yacht
Beware of legal advice in a forum like this. Every suggestion or experience may be valid- for where the poster lives. The governing law on abuse of partnership interests will likely be different- a... |

Re: Buying a boat that’s been sitting on the hard for three years?
We bought a boat that had been dry-stored for six years solid in Maine- temp extremes for sure. After a survey revealed a few things, none out of the ordinary, we bought the boat. No regrets- would... |

Re: cockpit cushions Are they necessary?
We had a full set of fitted cockpit cushions. I got rid of them. There are just too many times when one has to stand for some task or another in the cockpit. I felt very unsteady when standing on the... |

Re: Repeater for ancient Seafarer 700 depth sounder
Airmar has made many if not all of the depth and speed sensors for branded navigation instruments for a long time. The depth sensors usually resonate 200 KHZ, though some older ones resonate at 180... |

Re: Refit vs buying

Re: Depthsounder 4” round replacement

Re: Cost of Rebuild of Perkins 4.108?
Our recent re-build was more than that, but not horribly. Paid $800 for parts, had a shop do the work for $2700. I agree, it’s not rocket science, but you do want someone who has an idea of what’s... |

Re: Largest boat couple can handle
Re the part of this about ferrocement. There seems to be a lot of comment that sounds like making a ferrocement hull as good as fiberglass. What’s the point of that? Unless it was a LOT better than... |

Nasty, yes. But nastier than gasoline? Or jet fuel? Or coal? Admittedly it’s a competition of evil. |
