Re: Water Witch...which wires? Amps?

Thanks. That is the image that I have in the instructions above. Maybe it’s that I have two red wires coming in instead of one black and one red

Water Witch...which wires? Amps?

The Rule float switch being replaced here has two gray wires going to two red wires.

There is one other red and a black wire apparently terminating next to them.

Re: Downwind Sailing- Adding a Drifter

We love flying our asym (47’) even though it’s pretty heavy to lug up forward. I agree that a sock is a must. Ours lives in a deep starboard side lazerette. My wife had the great idea to bring the...

Re: BVI Update?

Yes, I did read this link. Thanks for sharing. I was interested in hearing from cruisers currently in the area. Sounds like still worth the trip.

BVI Update?

We considering a last minute Moorings charter in January and February. Anyone in the area care to comment on what life for a cruiser is currently like? What’s up on Anegada?

Beneteau 42/44CC vs 473/423

I don’t recall the master show in the 423 but the 473 is more than adequate. I’m 6’3” and the forward berth is right for me. Not so much on the 423 where the master head door would hit my feet which...

Re: Beneteau 42/44CC vs 473/423

Hi Drew,

All you say about the the B473 is true. Fast, comfortable, and easy to sail. It maneuvers quite well in tight spaces, as well. We chose it over the 423 only for its larger owner stateroom...

Re: SHAME SHAME SHAME

OP's presentation is not so hot but the idea has some merit. We detected a mega yacht on AIS tracking to collide with us making 15 knots and five nm out. We hailed several times without response. We...

Re: Why people may not help you!

Thank you, Stu! I couldn't even finish reading the post. Also, a marine is not a marina (that's about how far I got). Punctuation really matters, too.

What would make the site much more interesting would be if that silent majority chipped in much more than they do. They obviously have thoughts and opinions so it would be...

Cockpit Light Suggestions?

My wife found this last season. It's also available in 'warm' led. Packs flat, no batts.

Re: East Coast US - best shoreside location for a US base?

Yeah, not CT in that budget. Figure upwards of 2 million to start with a deep water dock. I'm guessing the same for NY and RI. Carolinas appear to have a few opportunities.

Re: What if someone has tied to your private mooring

That's pretty much the deal at North Cove in Old Saybrook. Never been, but word is out that it works well. Common sense, right?

Re: Traffic Separation Zones

Great responses. So, either fall in line or cross at 90 degrees. Always keep your radio on (and listen). AIS and RADAR are extremely valuable. Oh yeah, and eyes. Do I have it?

The TSS actually...

Traffic Separation Zones

Thinking ahead about some trips next year I have seen the term, "Traffic Separation Zone" designated on some of the legs (usually around more congested areas) of my routes. At least that's what...

Re: Beds on board , renting your boat for accomodation

Hey Steven,

Those sound like reasonable enough fears to me! I suppose you could charge hefty enough deposits to your "guests" to cover what could amount to real damage if systems aren't used...

Non payment for delivery crew

Legally you may collect from both if the contract is with both, which in a court means either. In other words, it's not for you to figure they should split the fee. If he's being a jerk and not...

Re: Handling a 45+ foot boat

We have no problem handling our Beneteau 473 underway and in the marina. It's our first boat. We haven't hit anyone or anything...yet. If it were a full keel it would be more challenging, but people...

Re: Raymarine SPX-30 Power Source

Michael,

This turned out to be spot on. After testing the system and getting a constant 12 volts from the course computer we replaced it ((on our own) with a new ACU-400 and EV-1. Everything lit...

Re: Raymarine SPX-30 Power Source

John,

Your input is very helpful. My thought on Opie's advice was that a compromised fuse would simply cause the AP to not work, and not apply because the issue is intermittent. Maybe I'm wrong...

Re: Raymarine SPX-30 Power Source

I wouldn't let the tech back on the boat for reasons outside this topic. But the sound emminating from the battery bank area whilst switching on and off the autopilot at the breaker sure does sound...

Re: Raymarine SPX-30 Power Source

I do have a separate breaker switch on the panel for the autopilot. Makes me wonder why there would be another switch by the battery bank.

Raymarine SPX-30 Power Source

SPX30 on 2007 Beneteau 473. i70 reads No Pilot. This began as an intermittent issue but has progressed to not working at all. When switching on the AP a very noticeable 'clunk' sound can be heard...
