Re: CHECK YOUR WEST MARINE BILL

This. Stores like this have huge inventories, and everything is computerized. The cashier doesn't know the price of every item and what is on sale, they trust the computer. And sometimes, things...

Re: Pacific NW charter help

Last summer we did San Juan Sailing in Bellingham. We loved them, and we loved sailing in that area.

We only really had one good day of sailing all week, the rest was motoring.

Our favorite...

Re: No love for trimarans - why?

The Neel 45 is an attempt at a mass market trimaran. I really like the layout. There were early reports of serious manufacturing and/or design problems, I don't know if they got it worked out or...

Annapolis - Spring or Fall

Sorry if this has been asked, I tried using search and couldn't find answers to this question:

My wife and I are hoping to go to the Annapolis boat show either fall of this year or spring of 2018...

Re: Neel 45 Trimaran

So, some time has passed -- is the Neel 45 still being produced? Has there been more information on whether the problems listed here are more of a one-off problem or systemic design problems? Have...

Re: Land sailing, water sailing, and taxes

So you don't see doing something to avoid taxes as having anything to do with taxes? Um, OK.

Re: Land sailing, water sailing, and taxes

Don't look at the marginal rate, look at the actual taxes paid. It's a very simple thing to do. Look at the dollars difference in lifestyle. Maybe you are so rich that you can throw around...

Re: Land sailing, water sailing, and taxes

What an unusually and unnecessarily hostile reply. That's very odd.

I hope you feel better tomorrow with whatever problems you are having in your life.

Re: Land sailing, water sailing, and taxes

Go to this site:

https://www.dinkytown.net/java/TaxMargin.html

and compute the tax on a 40 foot catamaran. Now do the tax if that is spread over three years. Then explain to me how that...

Re: Hello from Minnesota

I tried to edit my post, it didn't seem to work. I think Northern Breezes and Sail Away work together. I think Joan teaches most, if not all, of the Northern Breezes classes in the Twin Cities,...

Re: Hello from Minnesota

Hi, another Minnesotan here, on my way (via the long route) to a cruising lifestyle. We took our initial lessons in the Twin Cities (Lake Minnetonka) from Sail Away Sailing School, I think it's the...

Re: Land sailing, water sailing, and taxes

Nah, not an excuse. I've started investigating the loan possibility; even with that it still makes sense to spread the payments out of as many years as possible. (I can only take out a loan up...

Land sailing, water sailing, and taxes

We've been moving closer to the cruising lifestyle. As you may expect, it isn't without it's hiccups, mostly financial, but also emotional.

But now I've taken a big first step: I've quit my job...

Re: Dating, Relationships livingaboard

The question is what you consider your dating pool. If you consider your dating pool to be "anyone with that can fog a mirror", then yes, living on a boat hurts your chances.

If you consider...

Re: Hoving To

Did he explain why he thought it was dangerous? They teach it in all the ASA classes. I guess if you were to heave to in a heavy traffic area and go take a nap, that could be dangerous.

Re: Severely anxious dog on board

Please stop spreading this old-style 'domination aggression' stuff. Fear is not training; training is not fear. There is a lot of actual scientific research on this, and fear does not prevent...

Re: severely anxious dog on board

Nope, not at all. He has been bitten multiple times on his own show. He is a dangerous quack. The only reason he can get any following at all is because we have bred most dogs to be docile, so...

Re: Puget Sound Charter

We are open to pretty much anything, but figured we'd spend the first couple of years doing the east cost, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. The sailing is easy, there are lots of destinations, and...

Re: Puget Sound Charter

Thanks for the info -- it sounds perfect. By 'not much wind', does that mean 'you'll have to motor', or 'sailing will be possible but slow'?

We are in the final stages of preparing to shove off, hopefully in January. We had been planning on getting a catamaran, but are looking at a mono because it would give us an extra margin of...

Re: SCAM?

This is why banks will have to either adopt blockchains or be replaced by someone who will. There's no reason for this scam to work anymore.

Re: Pedal powered alternator

Our local science museum used to have a bike hooked up to a light bulb. Even when I was young, if I worked very hard I could only keep it lit all the way for a few seconds. In other words, unless...
