Re: Main and mizzen furling options
Many thanks Dockhead. I more or less do what you suggest including regular servicing the in-mast Selden furler. My mainsail is pretty heavy duty fabric and still in good shape so I am unlikely to... |

Re: Main and mizzen furling options
I agree with your approach – you want to avoid having to go forward on deck as much as possible and particularly wrestling with sails etc in a seaway. On my boat I rarely have to leave the cockpit... |

Re: How should we protect ourselves in a Electric storm.
We were hit in Titusville on the ICW in Aug09. I was in the cockpit at the time watching the approaching storm, not holding onto anything metal. I had put all that I could (small nav gear, hh... |

Re: sliping inmast rolling furling sail
Agree with most replies, you need to keep tension on the line. I do it by looping the other side of the loop around a winch on the cabin top - just one loop and this provides enough friction to... |

Re: Poll: Which app do you prefer for navigation via iPad/iPhone
My experience with an Ipad using Navionics was generally good - I have a mount on the pedestal handrail so I use it like the big chart consoles others have. As someone else noted it is very good for... |

Re: REMOTE CONTROL ON/OFF MOORING
Thanks to all who responded helpfully and perhaps I need to expand a bit more for others. On the island our runabout is our car when we can’t catch the ferry (our bus equivalent) and many have to... |

Re: REMOTE CONTROL ON/OFF MOORING
Thank you. Ah, yes it would but then I would have to have a dinghy to store on a beach allowing all tidal access so that I can then row out to the moored power boat. I was hoping to avoid that. ... |

REMOTE CONTROL ON/OFF MOORING
Hi All, particularly you techos. My powerboat (5metres) is only accessible 50% of the time, the other 50% it sits on mud or the depth is too shallow to move it from its mooring. I’m on an island in... |

Re: BATTERY CHARGING WHEN NOT ON BOARD
Hi All, Thank you so much for your very helpful advice and thank you also for the welcome. Lots of good solutions as I anticipated. I think it might be time I did a bit more homework myself and... |

BATTERY CHARGING WHEN NOT ON BOARD
Hi All, In addition to a starter battery, I have a house bank of four golf cart batteries which are charged by either the engine (Balmar 105amp) alternator, three 135 watt solar panels, shore power... |

Re: Canaries or southern Spain to leave the boat?
Just a few suggestions from someone who is also sailing across the Atlantic next year. Being Australians we are also affected by the dreaded Schengen Agreement. Have you considered Portugal. Our... |
