suggest you draw a wiring diagram of your system, call RM tech support explain what you are trying to do. Tell them you will send a wiring diagram then request their reply by email.

The only way to begin diagnosing possible transmit issues is to FIRST check the swr with a swr meter rated for vhf….they are very inexpensive.

SGC230 24v convert to 12v

I have a sgc230 looks like it is 24v version. However, it is labeled 12-24v by the terminals. I tried 12v but it does not operate…. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this version operating...

if the swr is approx 1.7:1 or better …< 1.5:1 is best
then the issue is propagation … hf freqs during the day these days are not real good. 20 meter ham band not to bad …. unless you have yaggi...

Most available are only rated to 100 watts
you need 150 watts minimum, freq 1 to 30Mhz range

The e & c series are very low voltage sensitive

There are two types of grounds
1. DC ground
2. RF ground. ie., antenna counterpoise

You need both for proper operation.

My experience has been in a marina with lots of surrounding vessels I can hear fine but transmit is severely degraded. Also, make sure your swr is acceptable...suggest you try in open water for...
