Hi Kris.
We are currently in Belize.
I also had the same concerns so I pulled the chainplates and replaced them with new ones.
I had the old ones tested and they were actually still ok. But still...

Re: Safely doing dive work?

I spend more than 3 years diving in the Gulf of Mexico. We were doing salvage work after hurrican Katrina. Never saw a red flag. Maybe it is more a thing with some the recreational scuba divers. We...

Re: Safely doing dive work?

I've been doing commercial diving work all around the world for a couple of decades. The only flag that we have ever used is Alpha.
That said, in the Caribbean you see some of the scuba businesses...

Re: Full Face Snorkle Mask

The commercial masks don't have a mouth piece. On the front of the mask you will see a shaft with a button at the end. That is for the noseblock on the inside. You can use that to help you equalize....

Re: Can a Hookah system fill a dive tank?

He is correct. I have also done the commercial diving thing for too many years to remember. Most of the saturation systems that we have used can handle about 300m.

Re: Spear Fishing - Dangers

I agree but we really should check our facts.
How come we don't do deco stops on Hooka? Some special gas or something?
What is the big deal with diving on "deep wrecks in 85' to 110' " Lots of...

Re: Where to provision in Cape Verde for the Atlantic Crossing

If you have to provision in CV then Mindello is your best bet. You have to buy the water at the marina even if you you use the marina. There are a couple of small supermarkets. You will also find a...

We bought some dyneema from Southern Ropes in Cape Town. We have been using some of it as lifelines. So far we had more than two years and 6500 miles of cruising out of it without any problems. It...

We have a couple of options but have been using Isailor for the last 6500miles on Ipad. No problems at all and very easy to use.
Haven't tried Navionic's or Garmin yet

Re: how to detect CONTAINER lost at sea and NOT hit it?

Every now and then they lose a container or two from ships waiting to go into Durban harbour. Most of them sink fairly close to the ship that they came from. They make very good spearfishing spots. ...

Re: Question - I know this will blow up!

My boat came with an old Furuno radar. I did add AIS and they compliment each other.
The big ships can see me and I can see the small ships and other things that don't have AIS
If the radar is...

Re: Med Marine from South Africa

Hi Flyingtyke

Our boat was built in 1980 by Scholtz. There is another Monte Video close to mine. It was built in 1982 or 1983. The interior is a lot nicer. The hull and deck is also solid...

Re: Scuba Gear for Basic Boat Maintenance

Those are fantastic LP compressors. Simple to use and they last a long time. We have done some really big jobs with them. Might be a bit awkward for a yacht.
