Garmin Wind Gauge Instalation

I need to run something by the forum. Last year, I installed a Garmin chart plotter, radar, and depth sounder. This year, I would like to add a Garmin wind gauge unit on top of the mast, but while talking to an installer he said I would need to remove the mast to run the wire down the mast. When the radar was installed they also removed the mast, and most of my fellow boat owners said that was unnecessary and just a scam. I have a Catalina 42 with a furling main. Thanks!

I've installed lots of things with the mast up, but never with a furling mast. How big is the cable chase?

That is the key question. If you have an empty conduit and it is large enough, you might have success using a bicycle chain tied to a cord to lower a messenger line from the top.
