The More-or-Less New Interiors of Our Boat - Have a Look

I thought I would post these pictures of our new interiors. Meggi did all the design work and of coarse all the little details are her ideas. She created 3D models of everything in her Mac then checked that doors really would open and the watermaker membrane really could be serviced if we stuffed it into "that" corner. We are pretty proud of how it came out. Everything was done with re-cycled wood from old houses in Bali. Some of that teak is older than the boat. What you cannot see is how we planned in our loadings for every years humanitarian missions. All the tables etc along with the salon sofa come apart and can be stored so we have more room for that 12-15 tons of boxes. When fully loaded the whole boat is full so we often have to sleep on deck or on the boxes until at least East Timor. That is not the whole interior I still need to photograph the aft cabin and the fore peak and one of the cabins is not shown.

I am in Awe. The attention to detail is quite evident and I can only imagine that was a lot of work to accomplish.

The log as a support post is fantastic.

I would submit those shots to a magazine or two, great job!

Some of your interior reminds me of Ragland Neil Youngs old boat. But a lot more beautiful.

It really does help when you work like mad for a few years always wondering if you are getting it right or going too far. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks it was a lot of work and very frustrating at times. We had to keep breaking off and going to do our real work assisting the islands we help out. But at last came The Day and here are the results. BTW it took Meggi exactly 3 weeks to decide she should have done about half of it differently. That's a true female artist for you!

About our cabins and fittings

Glad you liked the idea we used the hand made leaded stained glass in several places. I really must photograph the aft cabin as that is the best of the lot and stuffed with ideas. Just need some time and peace to do it. We could use so much stained glass because we were refitting in Bali and the stained glass made to Meggi's designs was actually cheaper than the tempered glass. That said, the stained glass has almost no strength so must be laminated to tempered glass for use on board. Do keep that in mind it is important. All of the wood work you see in our boat was done with recycled wood from old houses and broken up ships. Some of the teak we found is older than Vega. For our fittings we use scrap ships bronze and had them all cast to Meggi's designs by a man who makes musical gongs for the temples in Bali. All together including both sky-lights they cost us less than what was asked for three of the skylight strap hinges from one of the big supply houses. We will be glad to share what we learned along the way if anyone is interested.

Just looking at that boat and the work they do makes me wish I was a youth again and could run off and join them. Very nice boat, and amazing work.
