National Phone number for Weather?
I called the NOAA Weather phone number in my area and the messaged said we do not provide "Recorded Weather Information", please use the internet address for NOAA weather.
Is there a US National phone number we can call to get updates to weather in our respective area's? (in the event the VHF is out, or no VHF at all !!! )

Reed - National number? ummmm no. But there are local numbers. If your location were known, you might get a better response. Can I suggest that you click on the word PROFILE in the top right of this page and add some information about yourself ? This will help others, help you. :)

Hi Thomas:
Thanks for getting back to me!
I contacted the Seattle area Marine Weather by phone.
I got the phone number from Waggoner Cruising Guide.
The Phone number works, but states weather advisories are not available.
I contacted the Waggoner's and they where surprised at this and said they would get back to me when they got back to town.
Some of what I sail in the sailing club do not have radio's so a portable is the next best. If the portable goes dead I could use a cel phone in local waters as a back up. That's the reason for the desire of the number.

Gary - before I go out, I tend to use the internet to find out what is going on weatherwise. In addition, if I have questions, I find that calling the harbor patrol is a good bet.

Radios that access the NWS channels are available very cheap - Most of the GMS two way radios (<$29.99 USD) have the weather channels as an added feature.

If you are going out where weather would be a concern, you should have a VHS radio (and most also have the NWS forecast and weather condition channels on them). Phone is a nice back-up, but the VHS radios for Marine use are in existance for a reason - it is the principle point of contact for on the water.
