European 220/50/1 to 240/60/1
 
220/50 European Boat

I have a Lagoon 440 with European voltage, I'm not asking about converting as that is not cost prohibitive.

What I am doing is changing my charger to a Mastervolt Chargemaster 12/100-3. This change allows me to hook up to either 220/50/1 or 240/60/1 and the charger will automatically accept and continue charging my batteries.

I know I will have to disconnect (at panel) all 220/50 breakers.

My questions are;

1. Will my current 220/50 water heater operate on 60 hertz?
2. As my charger has its own breaker is there a problem running 60 hertz American voltage through my high voltage panel? Specifically two hots and a neutral vs European 220 which I believe is two hots and a neutral also.

My house battery capacity is 1440 AH. Everything on the boat is 12 volt except for the water heater and A/C and the Battery charger. I have a 3000 watt 12 to 220/50 converter for outlets throughout the boat, I can run the AC in the owners suite off of the converter but I will typically run the generator, no need to stress the Mastervolt converter. I will add another 2000 Watt Mastervolt 12 to 110/60 converter (strictly for future resale as all appliances are currently European 220/50) and add Six 110 outlets.

Our goal of circumnavigating the globe has started, we have come from Greece and will be heading through the panama Chanel early 2018. While I'm in the states this will be my last project.

Current upgrades included 1500 watts solar panels with MPPT controller. Redundant Chart plotters, instrumentation, sat phone with email capability, forward scan sonar (proved helpful while in the Bahamas),redundant auto pilot with separate drive, either autopilot can be operated with either of the redundant chart plotters. Also replaced all the rigging with several aesthetic upgrades.

Last question will these upgrades increase the aftermarket value or am I doing them solely because I wouldn't think of a circumnavigation without redundant systems... no time frame to sell, we love cruising and we're still young enough to thoroughly enjoy the live aboard lifestyle.

Thank Gordon, I've been a member for almost three years, when I switched to the new app I was locked out of my old profile. Basically I disappeared, thus the new profile.

Euro power is 220-0 (hot - neutral). US power is 120-0-120 (hot - neutral - hot) if you connect to 50A service.

If you want your water heater to work, you'll need to hook up the hot/neutral of the boat to the hot/hot of a 50A plug.

Personally I think you are better off just adding a dedicated 30A/120V inlet for the charger and leaving the rest alone.
