Castaway on Palmerston Island!

Hi everyone,

I have been deliberately marooned on Palmerston Island (Cook Islands) since November 2015.

I am interested in meeting people who are planning a Pacific passage this season, especially those who are intending to visit Palmerston.

Please email me at willrowenaut@gmail.com or search Facebook for "Will in Paradise".

Looking forward to hearing from you :-)

Will.

Oh now what a tease! You cant throw out "deliberately marooned" and expect to get away without tellling your story! Spill the beans!

Didn't Palmerston just get higher speed internet over 03B? Place isn't as remote as it used to be!

I didn't maroon myself, if that's what it sounded like lol. I chose to be dropped off here and to make Palmerston my home. To abdicate from 'civilisation' as it were :-)

Palmerston has had a 2000Kbit connection for some time now, which makes it no less remote than it ever was. I can't magic up some antibiotics or a ride out using the net! The only way to get essentials is to wait sometimes three months for the next supply boat. I call that reasonably remote :-)

I read "An Island To Oneself" by Tom Neale a long time ago. Great book.

Fantastic book. It's what brought me to this part of the world. Have done two Northern Cooks voyages prior to this trip. Raro-Palmerston-Suwarrow-Nassau-Pukapuka-Apia in 2007 and again in 2011.

Eleven left and three arrived on the last boat, leaving the population at about 45.

Thanks for that, like you I read books about that place and came very close but passed it by. Good for you to have decided to try something different in your life.

"I chose to live in the Pacific Islands because life there moves at the sort of pace which you feel God must have had in mind originally when He made the sun to keep us warm and provided the fruits of the earth for the taking" - Tom Neale :-)

Nice quote but if it's true God also made Edmonton, Alberta and he needed a kick in the ass for those decisions.
