How to locate charts on Android

I'm trying the Android version. I have CM93 charts on a memory stick. I can see the files on file Explorer but cant figure out how to navigate to them on the chart directory in Opencpn or which folder to move them to on the tablet. Also I can't find the file directory that's shown: /storage/emulate/0 etc. Any advise? Thanks, Colin

Thanks. If I could browse for folders in the chart directory in opencpn I could locate the charts, but there is no browse option. Could anyone explain how to browse from here. It's obvious in the Windows version. Or if I could locate the default folder which Opencpn gives as the chart location that would help. It's given as /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/organisations.opencpn.opencpn/files. I can't find this and a search on my file Explorer doesn't find it. If I could find this location I could put the CM93 charts there. I'd love to get this working on my tablet but a chartplotter with no charts isn't much good.

Thanks for advising about your path. That should be helpful to others, but info is not in the main Android Thread.

The Android File system is a bit Byzantine at first, but the common path for locating charts on the local drive is to start with "storage". from there it branches depending on the device (I believe).

Re: How to locate charts on Android

The file path listed here is correct for that phone and OS version.

It varies with different versions of Android and probably phone models as well. For example mine is.... storage device/Android/org.opencpn.opencpn/data//files/SENC.

This path is needed only if the user is attempting a manual transfer of charts into opencpn. Not the easiest method in my opinion.

To me, it's better to know where the charts were downloaded or transfered to originally. Typically the downloads folder, which is easier to find and may already be familiar to the user.

Then to transfer use the dialog boxes available in Opencpn.

- tap the wrench icon.

- tap the Charts tab.

- tap Add Directory button

- do not tap the + sign unless you intend to manually enter the file path to the downloaded charts, with no syntax errors.

- instead tap/browse to that location with downloaded charts. And not just the download or whatever folder necessarily, unless it's a single chart or two. Usually it's a folder nested within the dowload folder containing many files. For example in my case for Florida charts downloaded from NOAA, it's. .....Download/FL ENCS/ENC ROOT.

- then tap apply and ok.

How to tap browse looks different as well from phone to phone or tablet.

But you will see a directory list of folders but probably at the wrong level of nested folders. Look for the folder symbol followed by two periods. Tap that to back up one level. Folders will look more familiar most likely and then tap browse to the downloaded location. Which must be known by the user.

It's easier to do than describe.

Any corrections or input to my post is welcomed and encouraged.

yes, the two-dot folder is your best way to get above the muck...
also, newer versions of Android
( 5.- and above especially). needs some familiarity with SELINUX . as in "emulated" Try to find a simple explanation online as to how it affects you

Don't.- just put them in plain view in their own folder " /Charts")on an sd card.. removeable sd card preferably, IMO so you can easily copy stuff backnforth in several ways...cardreader if you don't have the phone driver for your laptop.
