A newbie

Hello to everybody

I am a newbie in sailing, just started and I've got my very first boat Maxi77 model. I can't wait for my first voyage on my own boat, in few weeks.

A couple of words about me:

I am former merchant marine officer used to go the sea for 7 years. I was working on big tankers sailing across the globe. Having settled to work ashore for more than eight years, I do miss the majesty of the sea, the fresh breezes, beautiful sunsets and sunrises, mighty storms and many other feelings only sea can give to us. I had never tried to sail before, until friend of mine invited me to one trip on a small sailing boat. And, I fall in love with sea again and found going under sails something completely different form sailing on motorships. Going under sails is something very magnificent, even magic So few months later I got the Maxi77, and can't wait to make my first voyage across the Baltic Sea.

Welcome aboard Lova - You are gonna love your Maxi I am sure.

Here are a couple of videos of us sailing in about 20 knots of wind. We have a huge 150 genoa and are reefed down to about 100%

Don't be shy of high winds. She really gets her legs when the wind is above 15 and I've had mine in 45 knots no worries.

That's great. How many days did you sail?

Hi,

It took 3 days to make approx 250 nautical miles with intermediate port call. Maxi77 proved to be pretty stable in 2 metres high side waves. She is proper open sea boat :) I am so happy with here. Voyage was beautiful with night watches under the moonlight:) Navigation techniques I had to recall from my nautical school going years and it was some sort of transition in time. And it was truly amazing. You don't do so much of that on big merchant ships packed with lot of electronic. Weather was fair, we were in the middle of anticyclone, so engine was used frequently. Right now I am looking out of my office window, seeing tops of trees waving, and thinking about going to the boat and to catch some fresh breeze:)

Beautiful! I have found the maxi 77 stable and predictable in a lot of high wind conditions. I love the boat.

250 miles in 3 days is very encouraging!

Thank you:)

I love Maxi77 as well. She had opened "a new world of sailing" to me. Intentions are to sail up to Gulf of Bothnia in next year. Right now I am learning a thousand of new things. Within a couple of weeks will haul-out her for winter storage, so I am preparing the boat for that arranging a place, a crane and keelblocks (I managed to get some) :)

By the way, where here I can share some photos?

There are a few ways to share photos. In your profile area - click on your name - you can upload photos into a public album. You can then use URL link to link those photos in posts.

The second way is to hit the "reply" button (rather than quick reply) and manage attachments to upload a photo in a message. You can also use the "go advanced" button to get the full message tool

The third way is to link a URL from an external album like Picassa and use the picture icon to reply in a message.
