Crowdsourced weather sensors - Android App

This looks as though it could be of great interest to all boaters. The Android App uses the barometer found in some phones and uploads the readings along with GPS position and makes the data public. I love the concept of contributing to a crowdsourced project like this where you benefit and contribute at the same time. (Also, had no idea my Nexus 4 had a barometer...!) I only wonder if the sensors on our phones are accurate enough to make this truly useful...

Anyone use this?

Looks interesting. The barometers in smart devices are pretty small. One of my favorite site for toys is SparkFun.com and adafruit.com... they have things like this: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12081 or this: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11129
or this: BMP180 Barometric Pressure/Temperature/Altitude Sensor- 5V ready ID: 1603 - $9.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits
All would be fun to track weather onboard. Add a BeagleBone or Pi and...well...I maybe getting off the point.
