CPT Autopilot
Am refitting my Steel Sloop and looking to buy a CPT autopilot. If anyone out there has one or knows of one sure would like to have one for the transit to Alaska this Summer....

Re: CPT Autopilot
Only my most humble opinion, but you mention a steel hull and Alaska. The CPT is a good unit, but those two factors might lead you to be disappointed.

Re: CPT Autopilot
Thanks for the replies fellas. I am talking with Jeff at CPT and we are finding out about the variation factor in my boat. It is a steel boat but from the deck up is wood and hopefully the hand bearing compass will find me a place to mount the compass without an ill effect. Jeff says the rule of thumb is 3 feet from any ferrous shall see. Am in the process of the testing now....

Re: CPT Autopilot

I installed a CPT on my CSY 44 in October, prior to sailing from Oxnard, CA, to La Paz, BCS. My boat weighs about 40,000 loaded for cruising and the CPT worked flawlessly. We had some large following seas, and the CPT kept us on course.

The install was also easy, working with Jeff to get everything designed for my boat. I highly recommend these if you are going for a wheel-mounted AP.

Cheers, Bill

Re: CPT Autopilot
Jeff helped me install a new CPT a month ago on my W43 16 ton fiberglass.

Worth buying new or at least rebuilt from Jeff. Nothing but kudos for the whole process. He even offered to help rebuild the old Cetrek unit as a back-up to his new CPT!!!!
