Strange ST4000+ problem

I recently bought a boat fitted with a ST4000+, wheel drive and rudder position sensor. On the delivery trip home, the boat was oversteering a lot but manageable. I assumed at the time that the rudder position sensor was dead.

Finally got around to looking at it (it was not a high priority item) - checked the volts at the control head - return from the sensor seemed fine 1.5v hard over one way 2.5v straight and 3.5v hard over the other way.

I went into user setup, changed the display to rudder bar. Rudder bar is now shown on auto, but not on standby, however the display does not move, it just shows the rudder dead center regardless. I read somewhere that switching to tiller pilot, then back to wheel pilot could get the control head to check for the position sensor.
Went into dealer setup. I see CAL ?, but cannot move from there. None of the keys have any effect. According to the manual DISP steps through the options, +1 and -1 select values. All keys beep when I press them, and work fine normally.
After a few seconds, dealer setup times out, and puts me back to standby.

Any ideas?

Oh, and it is Version 14 - I'm guessing that is a software version.

Once you see "CAL", push the -1 AND +1 buttons at the same time to enter the setup. DISP will now toggle through the settings.

Re: Strange ST4000+ problem

Thank you, that information was missing from my instruction manual :banghead:. I had already found it on the internet, and was just waiting until I could get to the boat and prove it solved my problem, which I did yesterday. I now have a functional rudder position sensor :-)
