Regulator for Balmar Maxcharge

What is the difference between MC612 and MC614 regulator?
I have a single engine, and a Maxcharge 100 alternator.
Thank you

I would recommend that you call Balmar. They will be happy to tell you the exact differences - technical or not, your choice.

Their number is 360-435-6100. I have Balmar equipment on my boat and they have been nothing short of totally helpful for me.

The MC612 is designed to drive two alternators from a single engine. The MC614 has the same regulator functions, but only for a single alternator.

You will be fine with the MC614.

Perhaps he was referring to the older MC-612 not the newer MC-612 DUAL. The MC-614 replaced the older MC-612. They then introduced an MC-612 DUAL to drive two alts on the same engine. If he has one alt all he needs in the MC-614.

The MC-614 can still drive 15A to the field same as a MC-612 DUAL but it lacks the second field output and second alt temp sensor.

The older MC-612 I don't recall if it could drive 15A to the field. Other than some slight programing changes the older MC-612 and the current MC-614 are pretty similar. IIRC the MC-612 was discontinued back in 2009 or 2010... I do like the way the MC-614 programs compared to the old MC-612 but perhaps that is just because I am more used to them now and I have not installed a 612 in a while..

So between the older MC-612 and newer 614 not much difference at all. Between the MC-612 DUAL and the MC-614 one is for two alts on one engine the other is for one alt but it really does have the guts to drive two if needed..
