'I have been studying Minnesota, which is interesting to me since this state is largely settled by Swedish and Finnish immigrants, and has climate and demographics and culture a lot like the Nordiccountries. There is a lot of information about pandemic measures on the Minnesota state government site, and it looks pretty good to me.

They are too close to North and South Dakota. I know one family that live in Southern Minnesota, they visit back and forth to Fargo almost weekly for the last while. Three of the family have had COVID 19 so far!

You are never going to be able to avoid the climate change brawl because cruisers are a group of people who take far more interest in the climate than the non cruising population. I tend to the opinion that it's because so many of us spend so much time experiencing and responding to. You seem to like colder places, last year was the first rime since 2004 that I have been out of the tropics, Ann and Jim go to the coolest part of Australia for the summer and migrate to the near tropics most years. And I'm sure we could find many other examples among the contributors to the Forum.

I believe you are friends of Carsten and Vinni. I don't subscribe to the sat. AIS and haven't seen anything since 7/14. I did get one post short probably over a sat phone?
I'd like to know they are safe and sound.

I have a question about in mast reefing. 2018 Selden Furling mast. Is there a way to haul out the main sail to a desired reef point without the whole entire sail having to come out and then pulling it back into the position you require? The mast does have a ratchet switch but needs to be in the open/on position to allow the sail to come out.

FWIW, I think you basic premise is close. There is some loss in lifetime, but so long as they are recharged soon, the loss is quite low once adjusted for the increased bank usage. I lived with a slightly undersized bank for some time.


An interesting thread might be the best battery type and DOD for several cases:
* Monhull long-term cruiser.
* Multihull long term cruiser. Weight is more important.
* Monohull weekend/ocational cruiser.
* Multihull weekend /occational cruiser. Weight is important.
* Racers. Weight is important to multihulls and weight is critical to performance multihulls.


In one of those attachments there was a graph that showed wet lifetime vs. SOC range for several battery types. What it also showed was that for batteries that only see 200-400 deep cycles in their lifetime, it just does not matter that much; they die from corrosion.
