YO DUDE! i had a blast! such a blast. inspire of everything that went wrong. but you know me, i just smile away! got along well with the folk too! and hey, i didn't get seasick at all, just queasy ONCE! i got my sealegs and been walking the drunk ever since - don't want to lose them! yes, really am happy. may go back next month, meet up farther south with the group. might blow more on tickets... (grief, expensive!). but i know i should! life starts with every new day!

hope all is going well for your delivery. you should be out there by now. will be doing carpentry work/teak work in port napoleon for a couple weeks (on the vagabond) if ever you swing by. sending you onion toast and a big tall hug!

I thought I knew how to send a PM but it looks like I've lost it.....and perhaps the plot...
Do you have the room and any thought on a paying crew member for your transit to Greece?

    Best wishes

    Thank you Boatman.
I actually have sent an email to her. I have followed closely what she has said prior to buying my boat. She was a positive influence in the decision. That was when there was 2 of us going to be sailing her. Now I need to be able to do everything solo... At the moment I have no autopilot and I hoped she could tell me if its doable on this boat without one in a pinch, and what tips can she give me. Also for tacking her. She has a tendency to go into irons on the tack and doesn't easily go through. I have been thinking I can use the mizzen to assist with this, and furl the genoa fully before the tack. Self tailers would help too. Just need more time sailing her. 1600 km separation at the moment doesn't help.

Good day Boatman61. I was referred to you via this site from Pete7 who suggested I contact you.

    Summary:
-I have been chartering Catamarans over the last 10 years in the Eastern Caribbean. I am now ready to purchase and have decided on a Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40. I have made offers on 2 separate yachts but have been unsuccessful at this time. I found a 2017 Lucia in France that ticks off all the boxes.
In your opinion, how feasible would it be to purchase in France , hire a Captain to join myself and another crew to bring it across to the Caribbean?
I don’t have the knowledge or experience to cross on my own, I also doubt I would be able to obtain insurance either.
    Thanks for your time.

bet you do miss your bike. i never did learn to drive a motorcycle (left/right gears/gas thing! oh dear) but they sure are fun! the bolthole... yes looking for an old lady place in case i wind up old (never know) and, in the meantime, be let while away. have considered the southern opportunities but have also seen what projects they are. looking for something small, not too far from my squirrels. as for the boat... geez, for the moment it seems that all the good-condition/fairly-priced boats are in the UK. still a fortnight quarantine for me. hoping this curtain will drop and i can pop over. still looking

hey, you sold your bike and switched to bicycle! way to go! hope you find enjoyable places, etc. you know, i've been hard-core bolt-hole hunting for a while now (now the the house is promised off) and am now re-thinking The Where of it again. so many variables. nothing makes much sense... i tend toward paralysis by analysis perhaps, but it is hard to get a good angle on things when the planet keeps spinning faster (curiously, literally, it is). as for the boat down that way: no CE import and dutch broker either didn't have a clue or is waiting for an idiot to come along... the keel was too much for rivers/canals anyhow, so... yes, am still just trying to figure out what to do. the Baba idea just feels so far away right now. am getting more used to looking at the local babes (harder to love but not everyone can have a pin-up!). keep well, good man!
  7. wolfgal
hey pure salt! just checking in... how are you?
am ok, fully focused on the bolthole objective, watching for a boat, while trying to remind myself that there is a life beyond covid-in-frenchieland... quite frankly, it is not easy to do.

    Hi Boatman61,
Snore from CF recommended I contact you. I am in the market for a cruiser and looking to find out approx how much it would cost me to transport it from say France to Ireland. One I am looking at is in Lyon France and would need to be transported to Athlone, Ireland (Riven Shannomn) the boat details are:
    Length : 13.95
    Beam : 4.4
    Air Draft : 3.45
    Draft : 1.2
    Engine : Ford
    Engine power : 135
    Nb. of Engines : 2
    Engine Fuel : Diesel
    Hull material : Steel
    Structure material : Steel

Would you be able to give me an approximate cost of transporting this ?

    thanks
    Pat
