    Sorry for not replying sooner, but have been having a few IT issues. The max approved draught on the french system is indeed 1.8M, but on some of the more rural areas, you may well meet with less. The bottom is usually soft mud though, so you can normally force your way through. Once you get onto the more commercial waterways depth isn't an issue, barges are. A lot depends on your keel type (fins sometimes have problems getting close into the banks to moor, as do bilge keelers) and which route you plan to take. We really enjoyed it, and would do it again at the drop of a hat. Which way were you thinking of going?
