Hi Charlie. overloading engines can cause engine damage. as you have said the fuel consumption went up and the engine temp would also go up, it puts extra load on the motor and your engine will break down quicker, I do hundreds of propeller repitching to get the correct load on the engine for max engine life. hope this helps.
