Picture 1962 Columbia 29 MK 1, hull #37
A few shots and links for enthusiasts of the first Columbia. Mine is hull #37, built in late 1962 by Glas Laminates in Costa Mesa and delivered January, 1963. Right after commissioning the owner sailed her to Santa Barbara and she has been cruising the Channel Islands ever since. This one was not built to accommodate the optional inboard engine. She has a well designed for a Seagull outboard. These boats, especially the early lighter models, have become rare, but they are, in my opinion, the finest of the old school 60's 29s. I really like the Tritons and Albergs, but there is something special about these S & S designed Columbia 29s... it is the MORC design over the CCA…

Picture Oars?
This began as a challenge from a buddy with a Freya to try going engineless. It went from a "I wonder what would happen" to, "hey this might work." I think in a dead calm I can get her up to a knot fairly well, but its a workout. The real advantage comes in going in and out of the slip!

Picture Outboard mount and hoist
Believe me, I know an outboard hanging on the transom is NOT attractive, BUT in my case the boat was built without accommodation for an inboard. And when the outboard is up out of the water, (and I have no interior fuel smell or bilge issues or engine-related through-hulls) the beauty of the set-up is more easily appreciated!

Picture Adventures with an old school vane!
My old vane and and how it made its way to my boat. I hope someone can let me know if they know the make and model and vintage. It actually comes to me via another CF member and though it is old, was lightly used and in very good shape. Apparently it was in storage for many years. Since I have an outboard on the transom, this was the kind of vane I needed.
