I came across your profile while investigating existing work on reverse engineering Garmin comm's protocols. I'm a grad student at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping at the University of New Hampshire and I'm trying to control a Garmin GCV-10 sounder with my computer. Eventually, this would contribute to development of a system for collecting trusted crowd sourced bathymetry, and hopefully integrate into OpenCPN. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to coach me on your approach to developing gradar? I'd imagine that the packets may share similarities between the two sensors, and that your experience could be very valuable. If you're interested in continuing the conversation, I'd be happy to give you details on where I am in the process. Currently, I'm combing a wireshark capture and attempting to make sense of bits in a hex editor.
