You don't have to be an angry agitator or live in a commune just something that is a little deeper than content that is generic, bland and self interested. Involve us in some way. Im tired of home movies and slide shows.

There's an entire blog about her butt! How did I miss that? I agree, the photography is great. In fact much better than a lot of the cruising blogs I've seen.

Taru, to answer you're question, get the damn housing for the Canon already! And throw in a pair of strobes while you're at it. And a flat port. Macro really seems to be your thing. The top side images are way better than the UW ones, and judging by the quality of the top side, I'd say it's the camera and not the photographer that's the problem with the UW stuff.

I also agree with what someone poster earlier. Slapdash was one of my favorites. Unfortunately they don't post much anymore. Talk about inspiration. They have the same boat as me, and knew even less than me when they set out. Great writing...and very funny too.

I'm with sarafina on this one. I think anyone who's just out there doing it is going to be inspirational to 99% of the world, who are still rotting away in their cubicle day after day.

PITA? I guess that depends on the cause. For example, anything politically related, it's pretty much a guarantee that the person is going to be annoying.

Taru - It is good to see a younger couple living the dream - too many of us are well past that time in our lives. I do have a couple complaints about your blog:

• don't go cutting off your head in the pictures
• more pictures of you
• higher resolution so we can zoom in

I don't think we need. I didn't even say her blog inspired me. But the fact is anyone out there actually doing is going to be an inspiration to plenty of your average mainstream 9-5ers.

REALLY! A whole barrel full of Tarus!! Can I have one? Yeah, there's no denying she's very nice to look at...and she's a diver too. Ok, so maybe I am inspired. Seriously can I have one? All kidding aside, the whole pop culture fashion aspect of her blog really isn't my thing either. But as a single guy in his mid 30s who also happens to be a diver, how can I not like it at least a little bit.

And I agree, find your own inspiration. In just 2 months, I at least become a snowbird.

This thread is interesting, but then I thought the one missing in action was too.

I've been trying to put my finger on what it is about this blog that has prompted such a broad spectrum of reactions, and I think it's a generational thing. (for what it's worth my own kids are early 30s, and steps early 20s, and we all chat about all kinds of stuff so I'm not 'out of the loop' with this age group)

The mid 30s and under have grown up in a totally different environment to the mid 30s+1 and over. What appeals to them is shaped by their experience of life so far. Their world has been sanitized and reality removed.
Milk comes from bottles, not cows udders... eggs come from cartons, not chickens butts... meat comes from neat little cling-wrapped trays, not blood spattered slaughter houses.
We packed a kitbag and went travelling in an old VW Kombi, they go on a Kontiki tour. We wore our jeans til they faded and had holes in... they buy them that way.

They are the pre-packaged, image-is-everything generation... why have reality when we can morph it into something so much more 'appealing'. It's not their fault, we created that synthetic world for them... actually for ourselves, they just ended up having to grow up in it

We see crows feet and call it character or laughter lines... they photoshop them out because the image is what's important, not the reality.

And this blog is a classic example of where the 2 worlds collide.

We 'oldies' recognize great photography, but because it's photoshopped to perfection we don't believe it, and that feeling of phoney-ness undermines the credibility of the whole blog, for us. But not for them. It's just normal.
Every magazine image is photoshopped and they know it, we've just found it out!

I know if I said to my kids... "if the pics are photoshopped, they're not real. How do you know if their dream is real? or that their boat isn't a photoshopped trailersailer? This whole blog could be a sham!!"
You know what they'd say? "It doesn't matter. It's good". You see to them it doesn't have to be real. It just has to look good.

Where we want substance, they want an eye pleasing experience. They don't mind shallow. It means it's safe and you probably won't drown.
We want blood and guts reality, eyes burning with salt spray, blisters and raw knuckles... I'm starting to wonder who the idiots are

I've avoided comment on the presentation style because that is extremely contentious and is probably what saw the death of the old thread.
Suffice it to say, looks will fade, even beyond photoshop's capability.
The people with full and happy lives then are the ones who have learned some people skills along the way, and worked out that the biggest bores at parties are the ones who can't stop talking about themselves and are forever looking at themselves in the mirror.

My 2c worth... I know that's cheap... I'm trying to instill values here

Aint this interesting, and its got very little to do with sailing.

You guys seem polarised between an envy that the 'kids' have more fun and freedom to do what you walways wanted to do, and a nervous sexual tension.

So whats realy going on here?

Doesnt every older generation look at the modern kids and shake heads, saying bloody kids think they invented and own the world?
