beside getting them some buddies:
We found that independence made a big difference. We bought ours an ocean kayak. Whenever we drop anchor, we immediately drop the kayak and off they go. They carry a handheld VHF and need to stay in line of sight with the boat but thats all we ask them to do.

On the beach they never have problems with each other while on the boat they sometimes need a time-out from each other.
