That's a good way to clarify who the Captain really is for those running as a collective - it's the person the authorities prosecute or put in jail. I guess that could include everyone oboard (from Admiral downwards) - "Hey, we're gonna need a bigger cell" - but I suspect that when push comes to shove might be a bit short of those claiming responsibility..........

I havent read this thread, but you should seriously consider having both hubby and bubby on the registration papers listed as Master.
Consider this: the 'master' stubs toe and goes to hospital. Does that give the coast guard or the US or some miserable little country the right to then impound the boat; remove the others abord and scuttle the vessel?

Sorry Don, but only your wife can answer for herself. Women are all different, and we are crazy in our own little ways. If your looking for opinions then...this women needs a wide birth, a galley with good counter space, and a strong boat that can take a beating. I need to feel safe. We had an O'Day as a learning boat... they are floating Clorox bottles to me. (now O'Day owners dont get upset they are nice boats, just not the boat for me) I never felt safe. We now own a Baba which is all I will ever need. Small, well thought out, great storage, strong as hell. Wont win any races, but nasty weather is now a joke That is what this woman needed.

So.....what do women want????

PS - don't tell me about the gallery, she doesn't use this I do. In fact I do 90% of stuff. Maybe I should just stop caring about want she wants (just kidding I don't the loss of any body parts in the night)!
No man living or dead knows the answer to that question! : -)

I pretty much decided my wife wanted the same. But then I did too so it all worked out.

Maybe on some of the other related threads lately if one of the "partners" had asked a similar question to this thread; they might still have a relationship.

as far as i can see,all my girl friends who own boats only want( me) for my boatbuilding skills and advice,to borrow my tools, help when their boats break down, come to use the bath and washing machine, get a decent meal when i cook.

otherwise are strongly independent of male assistance.
are women that different to any body else?

The (former?) Governor of California had some wise words on this subject

Men have a Penis. and Women have a Vagina

As a broad rule that has stood me well. Having said that, he probably hadn't spent too much time in Bangkok............

My Boat Too!

What I wanted most was a boat I loved as a home and trusted as a safe passage-maker.

She had to be a boat I could handle on my own (such as when my husband dislocated his shoulder one sailing trip and was completely incapacitated).

Hanging locker for my ball-gown (not joking - it was a pre-requisite that my ball-gown and crystal wine glasses sail with us for Celebrations

Plenty of water, definitely! I like a daily shower and to keep the boat clean.

Plenty of power so I can dry my hair after the shower :-)

Engine, Frige and Freezer that don't let me down.

Plenty of cockpit space for having new friends over for drinks.

Lots of other little things but you know when you find the right boat.

Good luck with your search.

What do I want?

A boat that sails well.

A decent amount of space for two people to live aboard. Last year was a 24', now we're in a 28'.

A bucket, or a head.

No, or very little black mould.

Showers would always be nice, but I'm going to try to find a large bucket for bathing, since our cal certainly doesn't have room for a shower :P
