Apparently she had believed this from when she was little, probably taking her mum's cute explanation from when a child.

I will admit as a child i firmly believed the tide when high on our coastline the offshore islands facing us would therefore be having a low tide as surely the water in the straight 'tipped'

Sadly I have to admit I did as well. I was travelling a twisty mountain road like ALL day near Whistler BC. And I grew up in Reno, so Ski resorts and mountains and snow just ARE 5000+ feet, and I really didn't think we were that high... stopped at a restaraunt for lunch and it was so mountainous and the 'lakes' were so pretty I asked what the elevation was.

The clerk let me off easy "well, um... that water is the ocean, soooooooo ummmmm" me

I recall being admonished to not spill kool aid or soda around the house. If I did, it was necessary to clean it up right away. If I didn't, it would draw ants. For quite awhile, I was burning with curiosity on how inanimate liquid could "draw" ants and then make them live. None my experiments to find out ever worked.

Not a misconception . A few years back my son sees a inflatable with a man yanking away at the engine.. We row past him with our Nissan not running mounted on transom.in a unrestrained voice he says Dad that guy has a damn Nissan too.

I remember when I was about 4 or 5 years old and someone referred to an old oil drum out back as an "Esso drum". (Esso oil is the Canadian subsidiary of Exxon). I didn't understand why they were calling it only an S-O drum because it clearly said E-S-S-O on it.
