Trips back home with a dog

My wife and I are planning on cruising with our golden retriever but have a problem. Occassionally we wil want to fly back home to visit family and I am not sure how we can get the dog back home. I really don't want to subject him to the cargo area and he is too big to ride in the cabin. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what did you do? Thanks!

Have not done this recently, but in the past American Airlines had very good pet service. You might check with them to find out the current status of this service.

We used their service multiple times on international and domestic flights.

I share your concern about the special heated baggage compartment, but people do it all the time.... I wouldnt do it with a 3rd world airline.. pay extra.
