Jessie Watson and Jesse Martin were kids when they completed their circumnavigations. But in both cases they had been sailing since they were pooping in their shorts.

It matters not how old you are, experience is the only thing which will keep you safe. 10 years on bigger boats, and sailing every weekend whether going around the cans or voyaging with family is what is required.

So, if you haven't any experience at the moment, if you start now, you should be able to commence the big trip in ten years. I'm guessing that will make you well over 20.

Aim instead for the Solar Car Challenge Race in Australia and sail otherwise just for the fun of it. Your life will be immeasurably better.

To answer that in it's correct grammatical form, it is a collection of loonies in one thread. To answer it in the way that i think you intended they are a bunch of loonies who understand and respect the importance of buckets in the cruising world.

I understand why you guys are discouraging this, but ive always wanted to be an inspiration to people, i have a couple years to research adn am learning more everyday and soon i will begin practicing sailing, i just want answers to my actual question not lectures, please answer the actual question.

dont do it solo kid, take as many of your friends with you as will fit on the boat. If theres too many of you, buy another boat for the extras. What a great way to get teenagers out of your hair til they grow up.

Undoubtably you think we're making fun of you and to a certain extent we are. Being serious, I seriously doubt if you have any idea of the enormity or complexity of the task you're looking at. Or the amount of cash you will need to accomplish it. A non-stop circumnavigation, round the Horn and round Hope will take say two years. Adouble circumnavigation will be four years. Figure a minimum of two grand a month ( yes, I know you plan on eating only fish and drinking rainwater, but there are expenses anyway) then the running costs will be 48x2 or say 100 grand. And you also have to buy and equip the boat.

So you will need a not insubstantial amount of bucks or some sponsors with deep pockets.

Asking which boat is strong and fast is akin to asking "how big is fish? ". There are at least several hundred correct answers to your question, the right answer depends on your adding a lot of modifiers, therby nailing your needs down.

So not to discourage you, but you need to think a lot more about this.

And get answers to the realyy important questions like "what kind, and how many buckets should I bring along?"

Jessee Martin's endeavor cost $300,000. Where you gonna get that at age 16? BTW, Once you load a boat down with all the crap you need for a year or 2 any boat you choose will not be "fast".
