Re: Time to beat the big record.

Chucklet at your age I think you should start by acquiring a dinghy and learn to sail on a lake. You may need your parents support but this is all very do-able at 13 years of age. The sailing skills you learn on a dinghy are all transferable to larger yachts indeed ex dinghy sailors are probably better at sailing larger yachts since they understand sail shape and setting so much better.

Have you considered a trip to the North Pole taking an 8ft. Dinghy with you? You could find the actual pole (its the candy-striped one that says North pole) and push the dinghy around it twice or hey, even three times becoming the youngest to circle the earth 3 times!

Yep. I think DOJ beat you to that suggestion. PLus, N-S and vice versa is shorter I think than round the equator. Pussified way to go. Chucklet wants the real deal. Only the gods know why.

Can you really see Russia from your window or even standing on top of your igloo or whatever?

An Aussie bloke, Dick Smith, who was the first to fly a chopper to the North Pole already did it, six times, unassisted, without stopping.

Re: Time to beat the big record.

Ah, but the boating record has to put in a certain number of miles and has to cross certain latitudes in the Pacific and Atlantic.

Re: Time to beat the big record.

Although if he rowed that 8 foot dingy from, say, NY to the Candy Striped pole and back he would surely set some kind of record.

Re: Time to beat the big record.

'course he'd have to mount a helluva big flamethrower up from to melt the ice in front of the dinghy as he rowed along. Lots of gas bottles. No room for buckets

have you given any thought to which type of boat would be best?

A ferro cement outrigger canoe with a junk rig perhaps? Maybe you could start a(nother) thread? .
