Re: sea snake in the toilet?

Never had a sea snake encounter, but did have a thoroughly honked off alligator on board once. We immediately named him captain and vacated the cockpit. There was serious consideration to giving him the boat.

Re: sea snake in the toilet?

Banded sea snake seemed to find interest in our boat when we were in Fiji. Curious little thing. Had just dropped anchor and I sat down in the captains chair stretching out. Looking over my right shoulder and see a snake crawling up the transom and are almost all the way up. Used my fishing rod to get him in to the water...but then he/she swam to the other transom...and then one way around the boat to try get up again...finally he left.

Re: sea snake in the toilet?

I we're headed to the Philippines in about a month. I think I'm going to buy a baseball bat and a machete. I don't mind non-venomous snakes but those bad boys sound pretty dangerous. Maybe I'll also get a mongoose.....

Re: sea snake in the toilet?

No way the snake can get by the joker valve in the toilet. They can climb vertical surfaces. We got rid of one in the back cabin in Bali by using the fishing rod. Just tie the line to the top ferrule, make a loop, get the snake in the loop, tighten up the reel, swing overboard and loosen.

Re: sea snake in the toilet?

Thank God we don't have anything like this in the PNW!

Would a spray bottle turned to a stream work if you shot them with ammonia, alcohol or something similar?

This should be mentioned over on the practical jokes thread!

Place sea snake in friend's toilet. Hilarity ensues. . . .

I've been invited to Costa Rica a few times but I never did make it... I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that:
Of the 13 most venomous snakes in the world,7 of those species live in Costa Rica..????

Did anyone try a "Snakes Not Wanted Here" Sign?

Re: sea snake in the toilet?

We have a pet boa, so I'm always interested about snakes. So out of curiosity, I looked up sea snakes on wikipedia.

Sea snake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looks like the majority of sea snakes are highly venomous. Some are not agressive and only bite when provoked, but some are very agressive.

Re: sea snake in the toilet?

Sea snakes are like Spiders. I stay far far away from both!!
But when in Viet Nam many years ago, tried shooting one with a shotgun the pellets went all around him, no injury to the snake. Needless to stay I move my boat far away from that area.

Yet another reason us mossbacks love it up here! (Oh, no, I don't really mean that. Seriously, it rains all the time. Cold, ucky. Logs and deadheads everywhere. Never any wind, except when there's far too much. The damned freighters will kill you, and they're never on 16.)

Re: sea snake in the toilet?

OMG please all of you stawppppppppppppppppppp!

I have only five weeks till departure (form this snakeless country) and the only thing I am afeared of is bloody snakes!!!!

Why did I even open this thread, it must be my sadistic side..can you be sdistic to yourself???

They just absolutely terrify me, and you have all just undone the many hours the husband has put into reassuring me that the snakes cant get INTO the boat. I was only just coming to terms with how I was going to swim. NOW I am worried about how I am going to SLEEP.
OMG, OMG OMG

Helppppppppppppppppp
