Sailing Women Don't Have Issues

I must be too influenced by the women's magnazines I'm read over the years (sometimes that's all you can find in the house to read that you haven't yet). From the infrequent "Women Afloat" threads and my questions to "women wants" (that yes got mostly men answers) it would seem that sailing women have much fewer issues that the land dwellers.

Another thing to put down in the "why go cruising" column of the list.

Maybe there are two types of women? The adventurous kind and the rest of them.

Anything "outdoors" seems to be male dominated, whether it involves muscles or not. For instance, flying an aircraft needs no muscles but almost no women do it. Here in the UK the male/female ratio in gliders is literally 99:1. Running around in the great outdoors does not seem to appeal to the ladies.

Why are there so few female physicists or engineers? Why do more women do biology than physics?

I don't know the answer. I can only suspect that men and women are truly different beasts with very different wants and needs.

I think people in general (men and women) who have serious issues are less likely to go cruising.

You have a point. I know lots of momen who have given birth but I can't think of a single man!

Don,
I'm curious what you mean by "issues".

Women, maybe. People, not.

I'd, intuitively and empirically, back goboatingnow - more issues.

Seemed to be a few women posting a while back - but gone a bit quiet on that front recently

Maybe they are away dealing with some "Women's issues"? Ironing

Not from me! I think you mean high-maintenance women. If so, I would say you're right. They don't do so well with the cruising life - too much work (breaks the nails and messes up the hair, dontcha know) and too little space for all the cosmetics and shoes. LOL!

Huh? How on earth is that specific to women?

I've lost count of the times that other women have commented (in a bitchy way) on my very short, neatly manicured nails. Flysci has it right High maintenance women (in general) don't sail.

I wish I could say I didn't know any with issues.

I have met some who made things way unfun for a lot of people. But as was mentioned in another thread, you get to change neighbors.

Actually, I think what you are describing is not a male or female thing, it is a happiness thing. Everyone can be twerpy (have issues), but I have observed that people are less twerpy when in a "happy place". I am not talking about a physical place, I am talking about being where you want to be, being yourself. Frankly, I don't care of it is in a boat, up in a plane, or heck even in a mall. I have a friend that is truly happy (very few issues), she lives on land with no ocean in sight, strange but true . I say, whatever floats your boat.

Erika

PS
Womans magazines are like Jerry Springer shows, totally misrepresents the average person. Frankly, I can't stand em but whatever floats- well you get my point

So you missed me eh?

Ive been sorting out a few issues someone else has. What pisses me off most about people who date is their total lack of readiness and qualification for a relationship which is going to dovetail with my life.

Its always the ex, the kids, the family, the job, the pets .......etc etc that suddenly come out of the woodwork to hold us back and get in the way.

Issues arnt exclusivly male or female, most folks have them, but some of us have figured out how to handle, minimise and prioritise so they dont impede the good times we wish to share with others.

Minty is also correct re the ratio of men to women in typicaly traditional male oriented fields.
You might think thats good for me as it ups my chances, but sadly not.
Many guys hang out there for reasons which makes them undesireable.

Weak, geeky, nerdy, afraid of involvment or commitment, reclusive....how many more adjectives do you need to explain that many just arnt my choice.
Ive mentioned the crusty hippy type with regard to sailing before, but they are to be found in many walks of life where a 'boys toys' framework exists.
Fortunatly, we share the 'boys toys' interest, but thats all.
