Regulations Travelling in EU with Pet Passport Question

Hi
Just wondering if someone can clarify the regulation for travelling in EU.
Our dog has a pet passport and current rabies shots up to date, microchipped and visited the vet a few months ago for blood tests etc
We will be leaving France in a month and heading to Portugal, Spain.
It states on NOONsite that he needs a blood test from a vet prior to entry.
How old can the blood test be? Will the current test we have be sufficient or does it have to be less than a week old..a month old?
When we continue to Spain, will the french test be sufficient or do we need to find a Vet and have a fresh bloodtest each country we visit?
Thanks if you can help !

Re: Regulations travelling in EU with pet passport question

the regs have changed since the 1st of jan,a current rabies jab and micro chip is all you need in europe, deworming and tick and flea treatment if you plan on entering the uk.
i recently traveled to the uk and back to hungary with 2 dogs,a cat and disabled mother, mother was the most hassel!

exactly the same as a human would have, recording age, sex, breed, microchip reg no and vaccinations and rabies innoculations to date.

basically the same as a yellow fever/thyphoid/cholera record that travellers use in 3rd world countries

Note that the pet passport scheme only applies to entries into a country by an approved carrier and route. It does not cover arrival by private yacht.

Note the rules change on jan 2012 applies only to the UK. Ie it brings into into line with the rest of the EU.

I would email DEFRA and explain you are arriving by a non approved route ie a yacht.

Re: Regulations Travelling in EU with Pet Passport Question

3. How does the pet passport work?

For movements of pets between EU Member States, valid rabies vaccination is the only requirement for travel across borders. You should simply go to your vet, who will vaccinate your pet and enter the appropriate information in the pet passport.

We traveled throughout the Mediterranean with just our cat's inoculation record. They never asked to see it at any time when we were 'visited' by government officials. When we wanted to fly back to the U.S., we needed to get a pet passport. We did this in Italy. When we flew back to Italy, they didn't even ask to see the pet passport. But I still have it and use it for all of his inoculations, etc. A blood test isn't required when traveling throughout the EU with a pet passport, unless you go to certain countries outside of the EU and then come back into the EU.

Re: Regulations Travelling in EU with Pet Passport Question

this is not correct.. There is one more treatment you will need on a lot of borders , the Echinococcus treatment. it has to be done in the last 48 hours before crossing the border ,or documented departure by boat. And 7- 28 days later.
It is a simple deworming treatment . but it has to be documented , preferably in the passport.

One or two countries allso demand Leptospirosis vaccine.

The Echinococcus is only required for entry into Finland, Malta, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
