Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

By the pictures I see that these kids are stressed and headed for mal-adaptive ways of life! Call child protective services!
I can't sleep tonight. Waves of nausea, fever and chills as I yet handle another virus. I think of the legacy that I will leave behind- one of these days these little bugs will get me I conclude.
And I think of all the children I have sailed with...my daughter hanging on to the mast of my dingy, then racing all night with a J-24. My scouts through the years as I was small boat sailing merit badge consular and scoutmaster- to the present where I take my daughter and her children out in Papa's boat...
Yeah, if I get to choose my epitaph I want it to read:
"He cared for children"
(My baby, far off the Washington Coast in the Pacific. Summer 2013)

Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

Those pictures just warm my heart. Thanks guys, I needed that after the resent RH garbage. Somebody is making decent human beings for the next generation. Ones that will jump up and handle the situation, instead of look for someone to take care of them.

YEs I DO have a major question:

Are all children disease conduits?

Yes!
I'm 65 now and was visiting relatives 6 weeks ago and finally caught the measles from a nephew. I was basically raised as an only child, almost free from exposure.
I thought all those shots in the Navy was to avoid this.

What like putting a couple of hundred of the little darlings in the same building for 8 hours a day for weeks on end, you bet. Everything from nits to flu and worse.

However, are children useful on board a yacht? when the cat has crawled into a far bilge area and needs encouraging out, or something needs doing at the top of the mast? I know you can't send them up chimneys anymore but a mast is okay isn't it?

Pete

Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

Which brings up my theory and why I am so terrified of them:

Was the Black Death that swept Europe in 1347 really caused by infected stowaway children coming from Caffa?

For awhile I thought they are not getting this. Then Dad can I bring a friend to the boat? We had a ball teaching each other. My oldest suddenly remembers everything I have tried to teach him.
Our son was never crazy about sailing, until he came to spend 3 weeks with us in the Bahamas. We had a great time. When he got back to work in Michigan, they have one of these company video newsletters, and did an interview with our son, he now lists "sailing" as his favorite hobby.

BTW, we took both kids for week long trips when they were only 6 mo old and flopping around in the cockpit, locked them in the V berth when rough - I guess we be terrible parents then.
